Whoa, funky!

I don't know if you know this, but that song Lukather and his clan are playing is Cissy Strut by the Meters. It's a classic song, and they sure do a good version of it. Excellent idea of what the LUKE sounds like in a funky setting. Thanks!

Thanx Jon, I was really wondering if it was matching or non-matching headstock.

I must remember not to lob the softball out there like that. :D

My LUKE setup.

I think the nail was hit head-on with the "EMGs, Vintage Trem, HSS" and yes I did get matching headstock. It's left handed, by the way. I didn't get piezo, because I didn't know it was available for lefties on this go-around. My congratulations to whomever was the ONE guy that did order a lefty with piezo. My hats off to you.

That would be one Nick Dubaldo, brother to Pete Dubaldo.

Congrats on the DD Luke. :)

My new angst.

Without sounding actually violent or negative, I hate that DuBaldo guy now. Damn him and his tomfoolery, realizing piezo was offered to everyone this go around. He'll get his, that bastard!

Actually, by getting his, I mean he'll get his piezo'd LUKE, and I'll cry.

Good on him though, in all seriousness.

hi jimmy,

it's so nice to see him playing that GREAT funky stuff with a GREAT clean tone..

it is nice isn't it?it's one of my favorite video..

-abraham-

Oh Abraham... thanks so much for finding that ...!
That is so much, my favorite video of Luke ever....
Luke can get funky...
Plus throwing in little, swingingly~hip, jazz inflections here & there!
I would luv to hear a whole album of him playing this way... !!

Compression is really part of the funk sound..
that popping, snappy, breathing sound is a main ingredient these days...
It's close to, or just short of an Auto-Wah sound...
Sounds great when hip chords are being funk-a-fy-ed too...

Of course, Will Lee is also the total bomb!
He sets up that intrepetation of the 'Cissy Strut' groove so well...

That clip is now bookmarked for some serious study in feel...

Hi lucidology, i was so glad when i found that video, because i don't see many video of luke playing with clean tones. i always repeat that video again and again, especially on minute 5 to minute 8 .. i really love that part.. Never get bored.. :D
i also wish that i can hear the whole album of luke playing this way.. but from three solo album of luke, i don't hear much kind of this funk stuff.. maybe in toto albums he played lots of funk stuff.. but i really hope someday Lucious will make an album of his funk stuff..

@jimmy,
maybe this clips can give a better picture of how does the luke 2 sounds on clean settings.. Lucious was playing that luke2 in a hotel room.. so i hope this clean sound was really comes from the luke 2 straight to the amps.. (but .. i don't know much about sound related things).. hope this clip can help..

The Luke clean sounds totally changed my playing style.

Old - distortion on sound like almost everyone else, just not as good
New - concentrating on clean tone for more of a unique approach

Personally, I'm grateful I found the Luke.

Good Luck

Interesting!

I really love how this simple thread about the LUKE clean has turned into a glorified discussion about artists, music and great guitars. Thanks everyone, for your opinions, suggestions and hints. They've been uber-helpful; and I appreciate them a tonne.

Weird thought though... I bet that hotel room Luscious was playing in could be anywhere. Have you ever gone to a Best Western in two different cities and realized they're exactly the same? It's actually quite creepy sometimes. "I went to sleep in Dallas, but woke up in St. Paul. Weirrddddddd...."

Thanks again, chums!

I know this--I played my first Luke at Guitar Center in Nashville last week, and the clean tones just blew me away. Very quiet, very very nice. I've got to get one.

So,

1. What's the difference between a Luke2 and the original Luke. And what's different with a Luke 3 which I understand is soon to be.
2. What if anything is different with a Limited Luke Black from a regular Luke.
3. How much is that brand new proto Big Poppa just showed of the Luke in some quilted maple?
