Just heard that Duck Dunn has died. For those who get it, you know who he was. For you kids and heathens, he was the bassist for Booker T and the MGs, and better known as the guy with the Jack Williams fro in the Blues Brothers band.

Every time I hit that middle pickup on my Big Al and think "P bass time" I think of him.

Here's an apocryphal story for Jack:

Duck always used flats, which of course, last a long, long time. Once a string, many years old, broke. Duck said "Geez, it was just getting broken in."

I probably fall more towards the whippersnapper end of things, but I still know who he was and always will be.... One of the true masters of our chosen instrument! RIP for sure.

Even though I live in a "Mustang Sally Free Zone," I believe much of his music will be played today.

Thank you, Duck Dunn, for all those great bass lines we all try to emulate.

I stole from him mercilessly. So much of what I want regarding tone was defined by him. Plus he was one funny sumbitch.

Another great one gone.

Huge Duck fan, I absolutely loved his work with Booker T and the MGs. A major influence will be missed. Here's to hoping he's resting in peace.

Actually, what is extremely weird, is that last night....for the first time in months....I found myself oddly compelled to jump into some of his basslines with Booker T.....weird weird weird.

RIP Duck, I miss you already.
