After a pretty long break, I finally had the chance to take the rosewood out and gig it (actually it is my first time to really bang around on it). What seemed pretty tame in the low levels of practice was extremely aggressive at higher volume. How aggressive? Put it this way, from a midrange growl standpoint, it killed both of my Hs. I have owned other HH Bongos and this, well it is a whole new beast. It was clear and had a new bark I haven't heard before. I thought it might be my imagination but everyone who has seen me before made comments about it.
Aside from the tone (which is killer), the neck is super fast. The profile feels almost different ( I know it isn't but the lack of paint gives it a new feel).
The color... if you have been around at all, you know I am a huge Desert Gold fan... well it isn't close to that but it is VERY nice. The color switches quite a bit under stage lights and goes copper, to red to yellow (and sometimes all at once) -think a more metallic Lava Pearl with yellow highlights.
The setup needs to be addressed a bit (the nut on the E string looks like it might have been slotted a bit low - I will peek at it again today) but other than that it was primo.
Can't wait to get it back out again next week!
