Question Rosewood neck Stingray 5

Hi
First post here... but I've owned MM basses since their introduction.
I'm about to buy a BFR Stingray 5 with the rosewood neck option, and would like some input on them.
When were these produced?
Is the pickup AlNiCo or ceramic?
Any pronounced tonal differences due to the neck's materials?

Any other insights into these basses welcome...

There was a short order window for these...Nov17 through Dec17, 08. They started rolling out of the factory around March/April of 09, so your SR5 will have alnico pickups...

Great basses. I have one and I'd say the tone is a little different from the standard neck, a bit warmer and perhaps a little punchier.

Welcome to the rosewood neck club. I think the rosewood neck makes the mids sound more aggressive, like a rickenbacker, but that could be due to other factors on this particular Bongo. It's one of my favorites, also cabernet like Mingusbass.

I just paif for a stingray 5hh with full rosewood neck i found on tb. It has to be shipped now and i am very excited as i never tried one of those. It has a tobaccoburst body and a tortguard and looks very classic.

I hope i did the right thing....

I was eying that ad as well, congrats!

That combo of body color and neck just looks like they were meant for each other.

The Big Al is a killer sounding bass! Try one if you can. You have to be aware it has a sterling neck, which might be a little tiny when you are used to stingrays...

I need to resurrect this thread just to point out how great the all rosewood neck Stingray 5 sounds with the band.

We are currently doing a project for a little Cover band contest where we wnat to go for a really heavy, big sound. That means two heavily distorted guitars and a ten ton bass sound.

It seems like the bfr rosewoodnecks are just perfect for this, because they give a very special punch and timbre to the sound. I would describe it as 'darker' and more upfront in the mix than my SR4. I am adding some dirt to the tone with a sansamp bddi and / or an ehx big muff that I blend to the clean sound with a looper-pedal.

We have to play 4 songs for the contest and I am using setting 1,3 and 4. Especially 4 is incredibly fat and juicy

I just want to encourage everybody who gets the opportunity to get one of these beautys.
