Its just a matter of personal taste. If there was just one "best" wood, that's all they'd make the things with.

Some people claim that the maple fingerboards sound a tiny bit brighter and snappier, and that the rosewood boards sound a tiny bit smoother and rounded.

Personally, I don't hear a difference. What IS different is the way they look and feel to your hand. Try one of each, and I'm sure you'll have a preference as to "feel".

id say maple is better just because its what i have on my music man and i love it! rose wood and that other stuff makes them look kind of ugly. but thats just my opinion.
