Years ago I played through a modified Leslie (only once) and thought it sounded pretty cool. And now I'm seeing a Leslie 860 for sale on craigslist. Hmmmmm.....

Does anyone have any experience with Leslies, and more to the point, playing a Stingray through a Leslie?

You guys are the best!!!

Hey there,

my Dad has a Hammond C3 and 2 Leslies. The C3 was modified with a 1/4" input and I used to occasionally plug into it for rehearsing. If I recall correctly, on the chorale setting (slow rotation) it sounded nice and smooth, but not as punchy or responsive to my 'Ray as a "real" bass amp and cab. On the fast setting, it sounded cool but not really very usable for me, personally. The other thing was that the volume really wasn't loud enough for use in a rock band. I imagine you would need to go through a preamp first to drive the Leslie to any practical volume level.

I can't remember the model numbers of Dad's Leslies -- what is an 860 like?
