RPS strings. Length of ball end cover. Albert Lee HH

My Albert Lee HH busts 9s and 11s at the point where the string goes into the tremolo base plate. It's a sharp angle. Is the protective cover on RPS strings long enough to reach beyond that point? I.e Is the protective wire visible behind the bridge on a Strat / Albert lee?
Cant source locally so asking before buying in bulk on line.

That shouldn't happen ... is it possible that you have a little burr there? Getting in there with some sandpaper or a small file to smooth things out might fix it.

yep... that transition needs to be smoothed out...

Just smoothed the high E on my JP100D as it was busting strings during bends. Used a Dremel with a diamond tip (7134). Worked like a charm.

A short term fix is to use a bit of heat shrink or a piece of sleeving from some small gauge wire to insulate the string at the contact point.

Root cause, like already said, is probably a bur in the plate. Once you have that sorted, I'd also say to add a tiny drop of graphite or PTFE after your done for good measure.
