1. is there a quick cheat sheat floating around on favorite pickup combinations i.e. toggle 1 + switch position 2 = Les paul-ish tones?
2. What's the best way to lower the action a bit?

Hi mate - The ernie ball site holds the schematics for the configurations etc.

It's weird going to middle for the neck pick-up but you get used to it quick! As far as setting up - I'm lazy and always go to a good tech for an initial set-up.....it's always worth it!

The link to the configs is on this page......

Personally I love the bridge bucker + bridge single. Great sound.

As for setting it up, it's pretty straight forward. Adjust the neck relief with the truss rod (you want it almost straight). When you're happy with that you can raise/lower the bridge. It's not as easy as the standard saddle height adjustments on the MM bridges, but it's not rocket science. Just use your judgment. They're pretty well set up from the factory, so odds are you'll just need to tweak the truss rod to get it where you want it.

It would be easier for me to tell you the combos I don't use. I hardly ever use the slanted single coil by itself. To me, it sounds like the middle pickup on a Strat and I don't like that. I'll use the bridge/neck together for rhythms or the bridge alone and maybe, for lower gain rhythms, I'll use the bridge/straight single coil combo. For solos, I'll a lot of what Mr. Morse does; which is use the bridge pickup down below the 12th fret and flip to the neck pickup when I go to and above the 12th fret.

Another quick question...

The strings that came on it...only available as singles? I like how it feels...just order singles from EBMM?

yes there single's only, you can get them off the shop on the ernie ball web site, or musicians friend/guitar center, since they don't come in sets, i so do wish there will be some sometime.:)

gauge: 10,13,16,26w,32w,42w.

i play some stuff from other artist like Slash "sweet child o mine" i prefer to use bridge HB... of course amp settings too.

"2. What's the best way to lower the action a bit?"
you cant without getting allot of buzz, since the guitar is a very low action, might not go lower without buzzing and poor playability.
well make sure you really need to change the action, mesure it to keep track if your uncomfertable(Spelling?)
with the changes so you can change back. you can use a flat head to turn the polls at the bridge.

note" a re-setup of intonation might need to be performed.

make sure you know what your doing, or just take it to a guitar tech.

from first having my morse i just had to take time playing and get used to the action, thats all there is.

how much of a tweak to your guitar did switching to 10-46 require? Will the nut accomodate it with no changes?
There are three things you will have perhaps to do :

  • increase the nut slot of the low E-string. In my case, I just took my old 042 E string and use it as a file. It's really a very small adjustment (you go from 042 to 046 ...)
  • adjust the truss rod (you have a bit more tension). Again it's a very small adjustment (perhaps a 1/8 of a turn)
  • adjust the intonation. Again, it will be a very small adjustment
These adjustments are not necessarily needed. Your nut is perhaps wide enough.

Good luck and do not hesitate to contact the forum members (especially the pro like beej or tommy ;))

At the beginning, I bought the Morse gauge, but now I just use standard regular set (10 - 46). Really, there is not a lot of differences ...at least for a player like me ;)

Me too, I needed a little adjustment at the slot of the G-string, not even the truss rod or anything.
