Here is a tip for all of you: Do not keep your strap in the case so that it touches the finish.
I had my DG Bongo in the gig bag for about 4 weeks straight, and today I took it out to take some pictures (trying to sell it you know). Then I saw I had let my Italia Strap stay on the bass, and just tucked it in to be able to close the gig bag zipper. The outside of the strap has been pressing up on the back of my neck, and the result is a discoloration, prorably caused by the dye used to make the strap black. The dye has sunk into the finish, and it is deep enough so that I know it won't go away.
Ah well, now at least I know it's a keeper:eek:

Try rubbing it with some nonabrasive car wax or Finesse It II polishing compound. Neither should damage the finish and may take out the stain.

I wouldn't even sweat it, Strummer.

Like BP said, it adds character to the bass...not like a ding or dent.

Yeah, boss, and I think maybe my Bongos are trying to tell me something. Like they like it fine where they are:D

Ah well, no Dargie Delight for me, but life goes on. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

About using something to remove the discoloration: I have been working with industrial coatings most of my working life to recognize the phenomina: It will not go away as the excess dye has sunken ito the paint.

With Italia straps, I'm really not surprised, unfortunately. Considering the history of that company, I wouldn't touch anything of theirs regardless of the "bargain price."

I'm sorry your bass got attacked. But, at least it doesn't affect playability.
