i was with my friend the other day, and apparently he has a String Ray, fretless, so i was very happy to see this thing. He says it's like 2 years old, and when i saw it, let me tell u , i was sad. This bass had a very beaten up fretboard, and the pickups had hit the string so many times, that there was no gloss on the pick up metal pieces(i have no idea what they are called) and they were sharp. all in all, it was preety beaten up. he's good though, i'l give u that.

Just thought i'd say, because i knowq u all take good care of ur basses. well, cya.

I hate when I see people who don't take care of their instruments. There is a bassist who is a regular at pne of the studios my band practices at. He has a Warwick Fortress 5 which must have been worth at least $1,400 when it was new. It has no case, it looks like he tied it up with a rope and dragged it from his car bumper. When he is done at pratice he actually throws it into his back seat. I don't get it  Why would you do that to something you've spent so much money on?

Its kinda sad to see basses mistreated like that :(

Although look at Jaco P's Fender Jazz... God knows what kinda stuff he did to it but it looks good in the sig model, but i spose its only a sig bass!

If you pay a certain amount for a good bass, youve gotta love it, my SR5 stays in the case when i dont play it, and the last time i let someone have a go, he dinned the headstock on a ladder in the garage, so now i allow only me to play it!

You won't believe the 'Ray I have then. The first owner probably left it out in the sun for a looong period of time, leaving the finish cracked. And then he tried to sand off the teal finish. Even worse, he did it halfway and left two giant bare spots on it. I got the pics, just email me if you wanna take a look.

The thing cost me $460 and I paid $100 to get it partially refretted.

But the tone's FANTASTIC!!

huh, well i guess not all people feel the same way about bass as i do. a 1k dollar investemnt is a ton of money, it should be preserved, enjoyed, well treated, and played , ad played, and played, and played. well u get the picture.

Oh believe me i do feel almost the same way about my SR5.

I bought mine in May, i spent my entire students loan for that term on it, that was around £1000, then put more of my own from working AND some of my flatmates money into it. Luckily it was payday that week and the moment i became broke because of it, i got paid, but for all i care, i could have stayed in for years playing on it instead of living the uni life and drinking!

I can easily tell it was worth it by the finish and the sound i get out of it, i love it to bits and i wouldnt change it for anything right now. You pay a lot for something, then you know its true value, in money and to yourself, which is why ill kill anyone who tries to play it who cant afford it :p

Then you guys are going to hate me because my SR5 has fell off the stand a few times, and also gotten a couple of "dings in it from me just banging up against things every now/then and just say to myself oooops !and then forget about it.No biggie. As a matter of fact it's on the living room floor right now but to its' credit the bass still plays well.

To me its just a bass man.

Well my 'ray is my baby, once I got it I sold my other basses as I didn't go near them anyway.
I got a friend though, he has major anger management issues
His SRV strat kept going out of tune, so it kept flying out the upstairs bedroom window!

Let's start some sort of safe - house for abused & unloved gats & basses! :D

I wipe my SR5 down every time before I put it away, I also wipe off the fingerprints when I tune. Sometimes I use a cloth to tune to keep off the fingerprints. Nothing is too good for my baby! I played my Ibanez 5 string the other night and thought it was awful. The SR5 is so much better!!! Gotta take care of it!

Ditto

Ditto again (but not in public...only when I'm bonding with my basses at home) :)
