Anyone ever tried a Sansamp Bass Driver with a Bongo before? I'm considering getting it but the Bongo's preamp is already so powerful that I'm not sure if the bass driver will do much good besides the overdrive and distortion.

I have one but I don't use it much.

It is indeed a nifty pedal.

The Bongo preamp is indeed very powerful. I have found that it, plus hand positioning and technique, will do pretty much everything I need a bass to do.

YMMV...

My signal chain includes the bass, the compressor built into my rig, and nothing else. I have been fooling around with a Markbass Super Booster for specific purposes, though.

I always see the Sansamp Bass DI as more of a passive bass kind of thing.

The BDDI is always talked about for this OD/Dist sound, but you can get a very nice warm vintage à la A***g sound with it, among many other ones - minus carrying the cab on your back ) ; you should give it a try, they add nice

I dont have a bongo yet, but use one with my Stingray except its the sansamp RBI which just adds mid adjustments and its an essentual piece of gear for any bassist. Your tone options are limitless.

I love my Programmable Bass Driver. Same thing, just 3 channels. Its perfect for my Bongo. I say if you want no distortion or drive then just run the Bongo direct - you can't improve perfection, but if you want the overdrive/distortion tones, there's plenty you can get out of it. Edgy to fuzzy, rattly to smooth. I've got a clean channel, a channel with slight drive, and a medium Geddy/Flea kind of drive. I use it as both a pedal and a DI box.

The SansAmp essentially offers a (quite good) tube amp simulation, which is useful regardless of the basic sonic abilities of the bass you play. If you'd like to have an SVT sound without the cost and weight, try it. Otherwise, any pro class DI is the better choice.

Ditto.
I record with the Sansamp set for various degrees of grunge on one track, then another track clean. A great tool.
