There is a two-night indoor gig at the Princess hall in Burnham-On-Sea (my nearest town) this weekend and a bunch of us went to listen to the 4 bands that were on last night.
Headlining were local ska/two-tone band The Communicators who are very good and very entertaining... but I was absolutely blown away by a trio of young guys from Torquay in Devon called The Morris Brothers Band:
Morris Brothers Band on myspace
I hopped right up to the front of the stage as soon as I saw their bass player Dan had a red/rosewood Stingray 4H (yes, you get like this owning Musicman). Then I noticed his brother Jason had an egyptian smoke Luke guitar and thought well this should be interesting
I think they noticed me as I was wearing a Musicman T-Shirt and I got a knowing smile
And yes it was good, they smoked - the bass tone was bl**dy amazing, the guitar work was amazing, they had an excellent young drummer and boy did they rock! Loud and full-on yes, but tight as a nut.
I was so impressed I caught them afterwards, bought a CD and of course talked to Dan about Stingrays and Bongos! On one song there was a change of pace and he switched to another bass (a w*****k) and it just sort of got lost in the mix - I told him this afterwards - I was saying to myself please please go back the Stingray and fortunately he did for the rest of the set.
They are a sort of a mix between, say, Muse, Tool and a few others but very much have their own sound. On stage they really throw a good show, lots of movement and attitude and plenty of posing and bass faces and I loved it. I'm definitely going to catch them next time they're in the area, might see if Dan wants to try out a bongo
Sorry no pics, but plenty of other people were taking them (press) so expect to see and hear more of them. Haven't enjoyed a new band so much for a very long time.
