Hey guys. I know we have seen these threads before, but I felt compelled to post anyways! Saw Dream Theater at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY last night and all I can say is.....AWESOME!!! The guys seemed reborn to me, having way more fun on stage than any of the other four times I've seen them. Almost like some monkey is off their back. With all the respect in the world to Mike Portnoy, they neither miss him or need him to be successful. Mangini was nothing short of amazing and played everything perfect while making it look easy! JP's tone as usual was just awesome, and he played darn near flawless for two hours. Only glitch was his rig cut out for like 30 seconds into the opening number, but a small army of guys had him up and running as fast as they humanly could. Their set list was awesome too, mixing a lot of oldies in with the new. They even played "Pull Me Under" for the encore, which totally surprised everyone. At any rate, felt like sharing some remarks with you guys. Don't miss them if they come anywhere near you, they are truly a special group of guys who can flat out amaze with their skills.

Wish I could see them live!! DT is my favorite band, and I'm a huge Mangini fan! Everyone seems to report that Mangini was a change that DT could really use. Awesome!

Missed them 2 times in a row now (this time because of school... and them deciding to play Vancouver on a freaking Wednesday). *Sigh. I'd love to see them again.

How was Periphery?

Oh man, I'm soo looking forward to them coming to Sweden the 25th of January.
I got the Meet & Greet so I'll also be able to meet them in person, even if it's just for a short while ^_^

I saw them in NJ and they were playing at a new level. They are playing more inspired and refreshed. I actually saw JM smiling and JP was running around. They have been reborn in my opinion. Plus, they sounded better than ever.

Mangini's solo was nothing short of amazing. He's just an unreal drummer.

I saw them at beacon theater, and I'd agree it seems as though they've 'gotten younger' or new life. I have never seen petrucci move around as much as he did. (except for the videos they showed from 1985-86 during their 20 year anniversary show). JP seemed very happy, and picked up all of the slack of the background vocals. I would like to see the goofiness / crowd engaging of mike portnoy be embraced by one of the members... someone needs to pick up the "eat my ass and balls" mentality :) everything was quite good.

oh yeah that jpxi looks fantastic under the stage lights
