Dream Theater blew everyone off the stage last night. An incredible 90 minute set. Got to see John play his baritone with a maple board.

What a great show. I'm still speechless.

Agreed. I was there too. I was severely disappointed in Megadeth though. Dave can't sing anymore (if he ever really could). They were a pretty sloppy too. Dream Theater was on the money, very tight. The boys did a great set. I thought that might've been a baritone. Yeah, they certainly did blow everyone off the stage, no question about it. I especially liked the little gimmick they did during the drum solo where they'd play a few clips of classic, easily recognizable drum beats, then JP would provide the guitar. Very cool. Of course they did a couple Maiden clips, Majesty was big time into Maiden back in high school.

I agree with both of you guys, Dream Theate blew EVERYONE away. An amazing show and an amazing set list. I also enjoyed that little gimmick, and I was surprised that the guy from Howard Stern show could play so well (still nothing compared to Mike). However I thought that Symphony X was the second best from the whole show. I don't know if you guys caught that, because they were playing at the small side stage which really suprised me. The singer for that band is pretty awesome as well as the guitarist. But none the less Dream Theatre was unbelievable, and I am as well still prety speechless. I think Portnoy said somethin abou them bein back in NY in February or so, and I'm hoping it's gonna be an "evening with DT". Those are ALWAYS the best, cuz they keep on going. Oh yeaaaaaaa, by the way this WAS my FIRST DT show I've seen :D , and naturally I knew even before they came on they would kick everyone's a**. I also agree about Megadeth, they were allright and put on a pretty cool show, but after all Megadeth is Megadeth.

I'm a little miffed that I missed Symphony X, they went on relatively early on the 2nd stage. I caught Life of Agony...I liked 'em. Powerfully heavy and melodic, without the "hardcore". I was pleasantly surprised.

I didn't see any of the acts on the side stage. Symphony X should have been on the mainstage and Fear Sucktory should have been on the side stage.

This was my 3rd DT show. Saw them twice last year: Jones Beach w/ Yes and at MSG on their own. They played almost 4 hours that night.

This was the best performance of the three. Definitely getting a VIP pass for the next show.

Ironically this is the first one I missed in about ten years...I only wanted to see DT and Dillinger escape Plan and really didn't feel like hanging thru all the other bands...

There's always evening with upcoming in '06...I'll hit a couple of those...

Well, I got back from Gigantour around 3am this morning. I left with mixed feelings.

DT played VERY well, but I think there was something wrong with the sound. It seemed very muddy and muffled. I could barely hear Jordan, and many of JP's leads got lost in the noise. There seemed to be an overwelming amount of feedback or noise in the 2-500Hz range that just drowned everything else out. It was also WAAAAY too loud. Most of the other bands on the main stage had the same problem.

I really didn't care for most of the opening bands. Life of Agony was ok, but the absolute worst was Dillinger Escape Plan. Who knows how they made it to the main stage. I've never heard Jack Black's 'One Note Song' played SOOOO many times. It was a complete travesty that Symph X was on the side stage - they were TONS better than Nevermore, Dillinger or Fear Factory. In fact, the side stage was swamped when Symph X came on. They even went over their half hour slot because people stayed and kept calling for more.

The biggest surprise of the evening was Megadeth. They sounded FANTASTIC! I'm not a huge Megadeth fan, but Dave and crew did an excellent job. The mixing was spot on, and all the clarity that should have come through with DT was there.

DT mentioned that the Spring '06 tour will be a 3 hour 'Evening with' show, so I'm planning to try and catch that, possibly at another venue. Now I'm just looking forward to the open house!!!

That's what I did when they came through here on the 8th, I showed up for Dream Theater, and left after they finished.

i was at that show last night too ;) but I missed symphony x..boy was I pissed!!

anywho, DT did sound good last night (even though they're not my favorite anymore, I can still give them the credit they're due)..

but you're right about the sound, dude...ALL the guitars were buried, from what I saw, the whole night

I got there when fear factory was going off...I like their older stuff, but they bored me...LOA sucked (no offense to any fans)....and I just talked about DT...they played most of the stuff I liked so I was happy with that....last time I saw them they sounded really horrible and I didn't like the song selection (by the way, portnoy RULES!!)

I was also surprised by megadeth! despite complaints, mustaine was VERY cool and gracious and thankful..the sound was good and the set list..oh my GOD, the set list!!!!!

Ouch - sorry to hear you missed Symph X. They were good, but they had mixing problems too - and they should have been on the main stage!!! Their set list also could have been MUCH better. They did a couple of songs from each album, but I was hoping for more variety. I was secretly hoping they'd play the Accolade, Cummunion and the Oracle or Accolade II...but oh well.

On DT, I wasn't crazy about the song list - but I was really glad I got to hear Peruvian Skies live!

And your comments on Dave were dead on. He was clearly very gracious and thankful for the audience and their reactions. It was really cool. Also, as you say, the set list just simply couldn't have been better!
