What a great show. I'm still speechless.

That's what I did when they came through here on the 8th, I showed up for Dream Theater, and left after they finished.OrangeChannel said:Ironically this is the first one I missed in about ten years...I only wanted to see DT and Dillinger escape Plan and really didn't feel like hanging thru all the other bands...
There's always evening with upcoming in '06...I'll hit a couple of those...

DT played VERY well, but I think there was something wrong with the sound. It seemed very muddy and muffled. I could barely hear Jordan, and many of JP's leads got lost in the noise. There seemed to be an overwelming amount of feedback or noise in the 2-500Hz range that just drowned everything else out. It was also WAAAAY too loud. Most of the other bands on the main stage had the same problem.
I really didn't care for most of the opening bands. Life of Agony was ok, but the absolute worst was Dillinger Escape Plan. Who knows how they made it to the main stage. I've never heard Jack Black's 'One Note Song' played SOOOO many times. It was a complete travesty that Symph X was on the side stage - they were TONS better than Nevermore, Dillinger or Fear Factory. In fact, the side stage was swamped when Symph X came on. They even went over their half hour slot because people stayed and kept calling for more.
The biggest surprise of the evening was Megadeth. They sounded FANTASTIC! I'm not a huge Megadeth fan, but Dave and crew did an excellent job. The mixing was spot on, and all the clarity that should have come through with DT was there.
DT mentioned that the Spring '06 tour will be a 3 hour 'Evening with' show, so I'm planning to try and catch that, possibly at another venue. Now I'm just looking forward to the open house!!!

MikeVt said:Ouch - sorry to hear you missed Symph X. They were good, but they had mixing problems too - and they should have been on the main stage!!! Their set list also could have been MUCH better. They did a couple of songs from each album, but I was hoping for more variety. I was secretly hoping they'd play the Accolade, Cummunion and the Oracle or Accolade II...but oh well.
On DT, I wasn't crazy about the song list - but I was really glad I got to hear Peruvian Skies live!
And your comments on Dave were dead on. He was clearly very gracious and thankful for the audience and their reactions. It was really cool. Also, as you say, the set list just simply couldn't have been better!
