They are definitely way better than what you'd expect at that price point, hard to touch that level of quality in the sub $700 range. Haven't tried the Ray 35 yet, but that SB14 has been keeping me company on a lot of gigs.
And thanks for all the nice comments on the reviews and videos. I hope you will all take the time to go and READ the actual reviews from Guitar World, they're up on my Bass Whisperer site. The videos are great for hearing the bass, but... I try to make the written stuff interesting and informative too.
I have one other review to finish first, but then I'm getting ready to do the 25th 5 string and Big Al review and video! Looking forward to that one!
