I posted this at talkbass but I am posting here hoping for help:
So I got this SB14 Sterling by Musicman, wired with either the factory pickup or a nordstrand mm4.3, something is not right with the switching.
Considering I have two coils, 1 being closest to the bridge and 2 being closest to the neck, coil 1 and 2 are active in parallel mode. Coil 2 is the only pickup active in single and in parallel modes.. and there is no true hum-canceling happening in series mode, but single sounds much quieter (as expected the dummy coil helped).
HELP!!! Picture below shows the 3 way switch wiring.. something isnt right here perhaps.. But I cannot use series mode, only one coil works in that mode. I have never had a musicman where series was a single coil sound. I know that the stock preamp probably attempts to solve the series volume increase by doing some trick, but if the trick is to silence one coil of the pickup what is the point?
