The SbMM Axis has a vintage-style trem, configured for down only from the factory. I've been thinking about floating it.

Anyone ever done it? If so did you have to do any mods or adjustments? Or can I just adjust the claw/spring tension until it floats and call it good?

You will need to lower the saddles and possibly shim the neck to get an acceptable action. Floating the bridge will raise the saddles.

I was just noticing that - bending down causes the strings to raise slightly, maybe 1/64". My SbMM Axis shipped with really low action, almost too low, to the point where I get a little fret buzz (although I think that's more due to needing a slight truss rod adjustment). I'm betting a float will put the action in a good spot, although there's plenty of room left to lower the saddles if need be; shouldn't have to shim the neck.
