Is there a forum for Sterling By Music Man questions?
Or are those directed to a lower universe? Redirect?

This is the place.

You will find very little discussion of the
imports ... just reflects the demographic
here ... but no one here dumps on them
and, just as "Big Poppa" Ball and Family
are here amongst us, the SBMM boss is
also here. He's very helpful and I must
apologize for not recalling his name but
that only reflects on exactly what I was
saying above, that the emphasis here is
verrrrrry much on made-in-SLO EBMMs.

The head of Sterling (SBMM) is Brian, and as Golem said, he is active here in threads about their instruments. I have seen a good amount of threads about SBMM guitars this year in the guitar forum, but not so much on the bass side to this point. Discussion and questions are welcome here, though.

Just as an aside, I have a room full of EBMM products. Bongos, a Reflex, Stingrays and Stingray 5s and a couple of Big Als because I'm not right in the head.

Anyway, a few years ago, figuring I kind of needed to be able to talk intelligently (hah) about these instruments, I got myself an SBMM Ray34ca that I even gigged a bit. It was a fine instrument, punched way above its weight and was a great value.

I wouldn't hesitate to have another one, as I kind of miss that one.

Ok then. Last summer I picked up a new cream Ray 35CA w oem gig bag for apparently half retail.
Let's call it NOS. Served me well- quality build/ fretboard etc; but never had the defined
"character" of the pickups my '76 and '88 EBMM Ray 4's have. So...
I go back to the saved SBMM webpage to find out Alnico or ceramic.
Which might explain the bordering on "dead" tone- or at least by comparison.
"Page not found" error. http://www.sterlingbymusicman.com/ray35-basses
In Sterling website 34CA shows up but didn't see Ray 35CA from before
detailing Cream and sunburst models. Discontinued?

Hi Bassmike!

Yes, Ray35CA is discontinued. We did make it in both the Three Tone Sunburst and Vintage Cream (and one prototype of Black that is in the hands of our good friend and SBMM Artist Raymond Tucker from the band Final Drive out of St. Louis, MO).

The Ray34CA and Ray35CA pickups are Alnico.

Let me know if you need anything else, I'm always happy to answer questions :) !
