All -

Greetings to all you Music Man users!

I recently acquired a Petrucci model and absolutely LOVE it. The only question I have is, how do I restring this bad boy with the Schaller M6-IND tuners? Is there some documentation as to how to accomplish this feat or a proper method to restring it?

Any information that could be provided would be MOST appreciated.

Regards,

Tom

Here is what I did with my EBMM JP's schaller tuners:

When you change the strings (change 1 string at a time)

1. loosen the string tension (but don't loosen the tuner's locking wheel at this point).
2. then you loosen the locking wheel.
3. remove the old string.
4. thread the new string through the hole.
5. pull it tight.
6. tighten the locking wheel until it contact the string. (Dont' over tigthen though)
7. tune it to the picth.

:)

By the way, Tom, do you have the manual of your JP? I don't know if they supply it with the guitar normally or not, but mine doesn't have it. Thanks.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!

In answer to your question about a manual with my Petrucci...no. Never got one. Does one even exist? Perhaps someone from Ernie Ball can address that question and if the answer is yes...how do I go about getting one?

Again, thanks for the response!

Regards,

Tom

No manual for the Petrucci. We have not done manuals for any guitars or basses.

We're glad to answer any questions you may have on your particular instrument.

Thanks,

Maybe EB tech could read this?

I too recently replaced the stings on my JP. Wasn't sure what was on it to begin with so I replaced them with Ernie Ball custom gauge strings hybrid slinky.

Released all the string locks, removed all the strings, placed a small wedge under the tremelo (a folded plastic string pouch), straightened the tuners so that the feed holes were in line with the neck, replaced the strings, pulled them hand tight then locked the tuners.

After retuning all the strings, I noticed that the tremelo tail was pointed back/down as if the tensioner springs were too tight. So, I turned the tensioner springs out about 3/4 turn, retuned and now the tail is flat. BTW...replacing the strings...piece of cake. So far so good.

Here's were my trouble is...now, I get some buzzing were before never a buzz. What's up? The strings I'm sure aren't the same as delivered from the factory cuz they just feel different and the sound not quite as heavy but should this alone cause for the rattling?

Any thoughts EB techs?

It sounds like you need to adjust your truss rod. If you are unsure of how to do this, give us a call and we will walk you through the procedure. It's easier than it sounds.

Thanks EB!

I called you help line and received immediate assistance. As your tech explained, the strings I put on were a lighter guage which gave the neck "relief". I made a very slight adjustment to the truss rod and all is back to normal.

Thanks!
