Guys, I'm heartbroken. I was gone for the weekend to visit my brother. When I came back, my room was rearranged. Including my guitars. I noticed two scratches on my precious Mystic Dream JP6 w/ Piezo. Words could not describe how sad I felt at this. Is there a way to repair the cosmetic blemishes? I'm very very upset right now.

Wow man that bites. How bad are the scratches? Down to the wood?

Who did the rearranging?

Yes, the wood is chipped. I would take pictures and post them, but I'm REALLY sad about it, so I don't even wanna really look at it.

My dad did. This could easily go into a separate story but it's irrelevant. Do you think my local guitar store could help out? Or should I just send it to MM and hope they can help?

Damn man I feel for you on this one. Mystic Dream isn't a paint that is easily matched. I'd give EBMM customer service a call tomorrow and see what they have to say.

My prized Silo Special came with a dent that the seller never told me about, but I've had to over look it because I love the guitar too much. Sometime people refer to these as battle scares.

Good luck, Glenn |B)

Thanks for the sympathy. The thing is, my guitar was cosmetically perfect. It just happened... I didn't even ask for my room to be re-arranged. Not that I would, I'd just do it myself you know? That's neither here nor there, I'm just emotionally distressed right now. Still.

that sucks dude. but, the only non-expensive way to deal with it is to accept the fact and keep playing it.

for stuff like this MM usually replaces the body but that's not cheap. also - u could maybe get a refinish done somewhere but that'll cost a bunch of $ and odds are they cant really match the original finish :(

just think about some of the guitar greats out there w/ their #1's... Morse, SRV etc they're all banged up but they still play & sound great

sorry dude

Yikes!!!

I attempt to avoid this exact problem. I have a 10 year old son who respects the guitars. He plays too and knows which guitars he's allowed to play. When his friends come over and I'm not home, I don't worry as all but the cheapest guitars are in cases and stashed in a closet out of view.

Haha. In my scenario, the role of the son and father are reversed.

HaH, I personally tend to store my guitars in there cases when they aren't being played, then there is never a worry.

Code for "cleaned up"?
Some parents get tired of kids making a mess. I know mine did.
Maybe a talk w your dad about sharing the cost of any repair work. Tough one to have, but maybe...

I used to have pics from playboy of nude women i'd put behind pictures of guitar players that hung in my room. If they knew, they never said anything. I thought i was pretty clever!

When I refurbed my JP 6 MD, I knew that I would only be able to mask the dents/chips.
I did buy it knowing that it had issues but $600 was a steal for a fully loaded JP 6.

I got a can of black paint and sprayed the paint into the lid and let it "flash off" - the paint getting thicker in viscosity. I then used a cocktail stick to build up the crater left by the dent with the thick paint.

I used micromesh sanding paper going through the grades from 1600 - 20,000 (yes 20 thou!!) I then used Guitar scratch remover compound to polish it up. Honestly you would hardly notice!!

Wow I really feel for you as I know that knot you have in your gut that seems like it will not go away. The bottom line is you have probably the hardest color to do a repair on without a complete refin. I do not know where the dings are but any guitar I own that has a ding down to the wood has a cool decal covering it. Give it a try as it is probably the cheapest fix, but believe it or not sometimes it works so well the guitar would seem weird without it. I have 3 that have had them on from 10 to 3 years and I forget their was any damage to begin with, the thing is finding the right piece.

BATTLE SCARS!!! In time you will learn to love em. :D

Needs quite a few more scars and a lot more playing time before they're really worthy scars!

EDIT: The first cut is the deepest...

HanH - I feel your pain man. I can relate, as a while back I was in a music store and dropped an Am Tele. Never ever dropped a guitar in my life before. Winter makes the hands very dry and everything is slick. Anyway she is hanging here on the wall, deep gouge on the upper back edge and two great dings on the end of the headstock. I have been progressing at my attempt to repair the gouge and can say that Spuds information is very good. I'm using some white poly enamel that I tint with neck amber to get the coloring as close as possible, then building up layers and will finally finish off with some poly clear and then buff/blend it in.

My heart sank all the way to my toes when this happened. It doesn't even bother me anymore though, as the guitar plays really nice.
