I have bid and won an auction for a stingray, but I am now very suspicous of the sale as the seller cannot tell me the serial number! Please could someone urgently tell me where the number is located on the bass as he tells me he cannot locate it - I can't believe as he is hinting it is hidden.

Before I shell out the money I need to know if this guy is trying to rip me off!!

Thank You,

Steve.

Unfortunately, the pics are too small to have a good look at it. The case isn't original. The serial will definitely be on the bridge between the saddles and bridge tail.

Good luck.

The seller has found the below references on the bass, he tells me he will send me some decent pics tomorrow (before I send the cheque off) he also adds he thinks it is a 1988 model.

REDFE or MAD 9 4

What do you think?

>>>>Thanks for the help thus far Gav, Are the references I have quoted musicman references then?

I'm a little confused with these references:

"REDFE or MAD 9 4"

Sounds like he's removed the neck.....the colour is usually recorded there...."RED" is the finish. "FE"....not too sure. "MAD 9 4"....dates are recorded on the neck heel and body pocket. He's probably found the date and means to say 'made in 1994'.

He is going to send me some decent pics tomorrow, I'll forward them on.

If the neck is indeed 1994 and he is claiming the bass is 1988 - Mmmmm

I think that this bass is too much of a bargain to be geniune!

The guy who is selling the Stingray seems to be avoiding sending me a better picture or confirmation of the serial number. I am going to pull out of the deal as I am getting very concerned that this bass is bits and pieces of a real stingray and other bits.

Thanks for the help, if anything changes I'll keep you posted. Looks like I am hunting a Stingray again!!!

Good News!!

The Bass now appears to be genuine! The seller sent me 8 high quality pictures of the Bass which clearly show the hallmarks and most importantly the serial number...

Now I just have to wait for delivery!!!!! and to learn how to play it!!!

Cheers to everyone who has helped me particularly Rod.....
