Hello everyone!
Just a simple question: does anyone know what's the relationship between serial numbers and date of manufacturing in Music man guitars? Obviously
I have serial numbers on my guitars and I'd love to know date they were made, but it could be very useful for used ones...
Can anyone help me, please?
Thank you all, MM-maniacs! :D

Thanks DrKev, but... someone answered a couple of numbers, it's not what I was looking for. :)
I suppose there is a reason and a logic under serial numbers as in severals other manifacturers, just would like to know quickly what have in my hand when I see a MM...

Thanks :)

DrKev is correct. There is no numerical relationship between the serial number and the build date. If someone answered in a thread other then this one:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-guitars/3830-important-my-ernie-balls-serial.html (<---- Click here)

It was because:
1) they are an EBMM employee and have access to the data base
2) they already know the build date (thanks to the previous thread or the info on the box the guitar came in)
3) they are talking out their... well, you know

I would guess that the pre-Ernie Balls may have some relationship and possibly the really early ones... but it has been said here before by EBMM that there is currently no relationship.

To add to the above- from what we know, there are batches of neck plates and when a new build is completed, one is taken and used. I gather that's probably the most efficient way to build these guitars.

I suppose if you wanted to prove that the sn#s are truely random, you could go to the SN# thread and make a spreadsheet of date vs year.

Just look at the first page of the serial number page. "Top Michael" has a 1995 EVH with the serial number of 87622 and I have an 1996 Axis with a serial number of 87520. That alone should show there is no rhyme or reason behind the serial numbers.
