BP - rather obvious why I'm asking you; Rob you're are the ultimate AL consumer.....

Bear with me as it's a long story....

I'm about to order an EB Wah and I've been watching the video with Blues Saraceno which sealed the deal, - here's the video for those who've not seen it - I defy you not to buy an EB wah after seeing this...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovld0LDOBg0]YouTube - Ernie Ball Wah Pedal[/ame]

His AL has humbuckers, I love my AL's and have binned all other 'single coil guitars of a classic nature' as a result, I still have some other non EB branded Humbucking guitars, which if I could I would happily part with if a better alternative was around, plus I'm not getting any younger and back pain in the heavier dual humbucking guitars made in the US is becoming an issue,

What I wanted to ask respectively...

BP, I know it’s a bit of a loaded question, but you always surprise and deliver so - will there be either a blues signature model, or forthcoming option to get an AL with hum buckers or any variation that would allow me to have an AL with humbuckers and not have to perform guitar surgery?

Rob, you've had more AL's than I've had showers, I remember ages ago you were talking about putting a humbucker in one, did you ever get round to doing it, the AL is a killer guitar and you more than anyone must have explored most options - plus as you buy more than anyone would you purchase a humbucker one if one became available?

All this from buying an EB wah and putting a mirrored pickguard on my SUB!

Hopefully yours
Smelly.

I gave it a lot of thought, but I just dont use humbuckers that much, I would miss that lovely Albert tone- bridge & middle. I realised why I hardly played my HSS Silo Special- I wanted the bridge single coil! So I left the AL humbucker idea alone, and got on with playing how I like. If a HSS AL became available I'm not sure i'd buy it, 90% of the time I prefer the MM90's anyway, they are just amazing in the AL.

I think ALs and Silos and Silo Specs should ALL come with a swimming pool route.;)

Then I could easily have my HH silo spec!!!

Smelly,

Short answer....probably not.

At some point a model has to be what it is. The Albert Lee is a alternative to someone in the Tele/stat camp.....If Albert decided he wanted the guitar that way then we would do it. I agree with Rob the 3mm90 is a way cool guitar

On my SSS AL the pickups sound like a choir of schoolboys - all clean and bell like.

On my MM90 AL the choir of schoolboys have been joined by some who's voices have broken and they have "seen some street action"

Thanks BP & Thanks Rob,

I'll need to get to try a MM90 AL, perhpaps the best way forward, I can't bring myself to drill holes in a ball,

Hopefully there will be some at LIMS this year, I can't see me getting to a dealer in England this year -(it's 600 miles+ for anyone who doesn't know how remote I am!)

Thanks again for the prompt responses.

Boy....I hear you on the back pain. The Silo is so light (found that out at DuBaldos while I was wasting time and picking up my Axis) and comes with an HSH setup already. Now, the lightness will give you a different tone than a heavier wood....but from a lightness standpoint, this is a great alternative to a hollow guitar.

This is the one I want.......so keep your mits off it :D. But, go ahead and order a different one or buy the used silo spec that Pete's got.

Oh....wait....(put on my salesman hat).....what you REALLY want is my sub 1 that's in the F/S section so I can get that silo...... It has 2 hums and a trem and will be a good buddy to your mirror sub.......you won't feel so bad about modding it.....

Just to repeat what Rob an BP said the AL MM90 is a fantastic guitar.

I have used mine yesterday during the rehearshal and was amazed by this guitar again. it cuts through the mix like a knife, it rings, it sings.

I feel very lucky to have that Rosewood neck as well.

Now if you want to replace your Les Paul (dual humbucker) go in the Axis Super Sport way or even better the 25th

And if it's really an Albert you want then route it and add humbuckers having a pickguard it's a reversible mod

I love this thread !!

I totally understand why the AL needs to remain the AL. It's an amazing guitar regardless of configuration and to see that video of Sir Albert Lee talking about how much he loves his signature ax clearly shows that the guitar is perfect. Gotta love Ernie Ball TV

I still think it would be cool to find a second hand AL and try out a single/single/MM90 set-up though.........

it's not important....But if you really want to kn
you thought about maybe sticking a hotrails in the bridge position, and maybe sticking a push-pull pot in place of one of the original pots to coil tap the hotrails? you could probably work it with say putting the push pull in place of the original tone control which on position 1 of the 5 way would in the down position be full humbucker, with the pot 'up' it would be single coil mode, which would give you a bunch of extra tones as well as all the normal ones from the mid and neck pickups. full humbucker, bridge split single coil, humbucker with mid single coil in parallel, split bridge single coil with mid single coil in parallel, mid on it's own, mid and neck in parallel, and neck. that's 7 tones

yes he sure does. i played it at a gig and it screams bloody murder. but....... if you want a twanger....stick w/ the original single al bridge pickup. the hummer does the rock&roll overdrive better , but it doesn't do the country twang as well.

Doesn't Pete have a Blue Dawn Al with a bridge humbucker in it? A one-off if I remember correctly...
