Probably a dumb question but this guitar is new to me and I need to raise the action a bit to eliminate a slight buzz in the upper frets plus set the action a bit higher to my liking without screwing something up .
I'm guessing you simply turn the 2 screws in the bridge CCW to raise ? Are they locked or do you need to reduce string tension before adjusting ?

Thanks guys .

Q: What is the best way to adjust the action on my Music Man guitar?

A: The best and easiest way to adjust your action is to use the truss rod. To lower your action, turn the wheel clockwise. To raise your action, particularly if you have fret buzz, turn the wheel counter clockwise. It is always a good idea to make just one or two turns at a time, then play it and see if it needs more adjustment. It normally doesn't take many turns of the wheel to notice a difference.

A "turn" as defined here is inserting an adjustment tool and moving a spoke of the wheel from one side of the opening at the body at the neck to the other side.

hey guys we have a great faq section, always check that first and you'll get the answer your looking for in most cases....

There's a tonepros bridge on there. The allen screws on the side of the bridge that lock the bridge to the post need to be loosened before any adjustment to bridge height is made.

That being said, Kevin is right, the easiest way to adjust the action is with the trussrod wheel.

Thanks guys but it is the bridge that need to be raised a very slight amount in this case , the yruss will only work the upper part of the neck mostly and usually too much to get the result I want .

Thanks for pointing out those locking screws .

Thanks !

Really, I find that truss rod adjustments on my EBMMs really work the whole neck.

Where is your buzzing? Above the 12th fret or below?

Above? Give less relief, raise the bridge.
Below? More relief, drop bridge.

At least, I think that's right.

It was above the 12th . I unlocked and raised the bridge 1/8 turn on each side and then adjusted the relief on the truss a wee bit too . I like my action a bit higher then most players because I sometimes snap my strings hard and also do a bit of slide .

I should have said the truss will do the most in correcting issues in the lower to mid section of the neck . Raising the bridge will correct problems in the upper register depending on the issue .
It plays/feels the way I want now , tweeked the intonation on a couple strings and we're good to go !

I didn't find it too difficult to set up Bill but as I was trying to explain I needed the action at the upper end a bit higher , not only to eliminate the slight buzz I was getting above the 12th but to make the action higher to my liking .

As you mention , the truss rod can only do the lower 2/3's of the neck "if" everything else is as it should be . It's easy to over adjust truss rods and a lot of us have learned that one the hard way :(. I like my necks pretty much as you do with a slight relief bow in the 25 1/2" and the 24 3/4 fairly straight but neither with the action too low as some like .

That has happened with some of my other guitars. String buzzing. I have to try and stop this with my floyd rose. Its the top string. Anyone know how to do it? I've never tried it.
