OK i have asked this a couple times before and got different answers and opinions.

i am totally loving my Axis more and more. Any guitar i pickup now seems pale in comparison, especially with that neck it has.

So i now want the thing to be setup PERFECT so i can squeeze every ounce of tone, so to speak outta it.
I have shimmed the guitars neck a bit more with sandpaper top get the action as perfect as i can for myself.
I did however notice recently that i could slide and piece of thin paper in the neck pocket where it is shimmed while the guitars neck is bolted on.
Does this mean that it should be shimmed professionally so there is NO gap whatsoever to increase surface contact??
Would that increase tone and sustain??

Luthiers have argued that it is the tension from the bridge to the tuners that matters the most.

I dont know. it seems a bit too much to have a gap like that in the neck pocket though?

any thoughts?

Thanks Sterling for the reply, much appreciated, i didnt think so.

These are really lovely guitars you guys make. What i love so much is that it has CHARACTER.
Too many times i play guitars, that although are nice, lack that 'special' something.

im sure you guys wouldnt send out guitars with shims in the first place if that was true.

cheers!

yeah, i didnt think that there would be any difference. Just slipping the paper in the pocket threw me off. thought that it was a pretty big gap.
