Question Shimming on Axis Floyd Saddles...

Just wondering how many of you Axis owners have had to shim your saddles because of radius mis match of fretboard and bridge?

i'm sure it's not a standard factory setup to shim, or is it?
 
Hey stevie, maybe you need to re-adjust your truss rod, have some relief 1st, and adjust the saddles' height to taste simultaneously. I managed to do the same for all my Balls and I get low playing action with no buzz.

If you really need to, rather than shimming your saddles, I would suggest you to buy some longer length saddles screws. Do a search here. I think this was brought up sometime ago. ;)
 
There's no height adjustment on Floyd saddles, therein lies the problemo behind the question...

There's no mismatch - that's not really what it's called. Shims get a "bad" rap by people who don't understand their necessity and importance in perfecting guitar action.

Remember the trem plate is "level" (it's not curved); it's the various sizes of saddles that provide for round "radius".

Yes, I shim ALL my guitar saddles on ALL my guitars!! I also "interchange" different saddles sizes. I also make custom trem plate shims (that's where the trem plate rests on the wood, for lowering or highering the trem. The trem should ALWAYS be level with the body, and the strings should rest fully in the "cradle".

I do this to get a PERFECT equal action on every single string, with the trem perfectly level at any action adjustment, with the margin between string and pickup perfect!!

I also shim the neck pocket as well, if it provides a better foundation of action.

I LOVE shims!!!!!

i agree, shims are a necessity. My Axis' bridge is flush with the body and neck relief is per standard set up specifications. However, i have had to shim, perhaps the neck pocket shims require some tweaking.

Judging by the lack of responses, it would seem that most Axis owners do not shim their saddles?
