Mr Dargin,

As you can tell, I have used the distributor/dealer base that you have set up in Australia, even though it has meant paying 2.5x the price I could have got my instrument for.

What I question is why you would stick up for your dealer base so strongly when they have stuffed a customer (myself) around like this.

I have heard only good reports about your companies commitment to excellent customer service, but maybe you should investigate whether your dealers/distributors are likewise as committed.

EBMM actually does follow up on dealers and if required slap them on the wrists on false delivery dates etc. I have seen examples of this on the forum, and even in my case EBMM helped me to confront my dealer on my order.

Some of the EBMM dealers absolutely bear no resememblance to the excellent service or music instruments that EBMM has to offer.

Exactly my point, Sundar

I am reluctant to cancel my order, because I know that (eventually) i will receive a beautiful instrument.

My dealer has told me that its not their fault, its due to the attitude of their Australian distributor. Therefore, my response was to put into question the reliability and soundness of the import company.

My shop guy told me that they have endless problems with the distributor and that the distributor is very unwilling to be helpful.

At the end of the day, I feel this reflects on not only the shop I bought my bass from, but also EBMM themselves.

Firearro - bang on!

20% surcharge for being born cacky-handed. I paid $250 AUS for a pearloid p/g (bit outrageous for a bit of shaped plastic, but I was willing to pay for it because it was what i wanted)

For those playing at home, AUD$250 is around US$200. The tort guard for my Bongo cost AUD$150 through the Ernie Ball Australian distributor, and I thought that was exhorbitant, particularly as tort ("shell") is listed as a US$50 option at the Ernie Ball website. US$50 = AUD$60. Add 10% GST = AUD$66. That's a heck of a surcharge for shipping. Let me point out once again that electric bass guitars are not subject to any additional taxes or import duties in Australia, other than the 10% GST that applies to all goods sold in Australia.

I think we're right to question these prices, and would welcome Scott, Jon or Big Daddy's comments on this pricing structure. We're not being asshats, we're just curious.

aussiemark - yay!! added the word "asshat" to my faves vocab!!

And I agree - we pay through the nose for our equipment in Australia - i watch TB forums where the lads have about 15 - 20 Stingrays and then say -

Oh well, I'll sell some of them and get a Bongo tomorrow..lalala...

Like its an option!!! For us in Australia, to get a decent instrument (even more so when you are a lefty) is like paying for your first home!!!!

10% GST as the only tax on a bass?? Kiss my ass. There is extortion at work in this country.

I really feel for you guys over in OZ, I really do. And I think you're right to ? the pricing. I'm not sure if this is the place to do it and I understand Scott's position on it to, to a degree.

$200USD for a p/g? Man, that is just plain madness.
