It seems I have caught the BFR bug. The few AL versions we have seen are incredible and I really want one. The only issue being I am at a point in my life where I can only afford one really sweet guitar (lovely wife, two little boys and full-time college student)

The question is should I sell my AL to help fund the purchase of a BFR AL?

Pug, that's a tough call man. Have you talked to a dealer about what they are going for? If not, do that first before selling something you really love.

Good luck with this one.

I totally agree, the regret of selling a Loved instrument is hard too live with, there are still a few i regret selling over the years. Do you have anything else you would be more willing to part with ??

I know exactly what you guys are saying, I have unloaded most of the other gear that I cannot/do not play anymore since getting my AL.

The problem is, if this becomes available.....:D

I'd wait until they are released first. If you started saving now and then kept saving until it arrived you may not need to sell....

I had GAS for over a year regarding a Steve Morse Model. It was very heavy sometimes, because the longer it lasted, the more important it became to me.
Since i have my dream guitar, I´m not a luckier person at all ( well... a bit), but I am VERY happy concerning my guitar playing.
And my GAS is history.

Hope this helps you

And I agree to Colin; wait until it is out, so you know what you get. You can sell an AL everytime

i would wait if i were you, its a fair way off yet, and who knows what colour they'll do it in once its decided, and they might take ages to ship them out, so theres plenty of time to save, and prices would be months away, i would assume. Still, it will be one heck of an axe!

Excellent advice! Plus, after you aquire the BFR, you may find it sounds tonally quite a bit different than your other and you will want to keep them both. Start salting away now.

They probably won't be announced as available for order until summer NAMM (pure speculation, mind you) and figure 6-8 months until they are available in hand. Start putting away $200/month, if you can, from now until then and you will probably have enough to pay it off.

I know what you're thinking - where am I gonna get an extra $200 per month? - I don't know man - that parts up to you to figure out!

i'm teaching on saturdays this year JUST so i can afford more balls, BFR AL in particular, and i hate teaching 6 days a week, but i'll live, cant complain!. i couldnt sqeeze any more out of my weekdays earnings. So the wait will be worth it!

Assuming that you love your AL as much as you should, you really ought to keep your AL and save for a BFR. Isn't the wait for BFRs around a year? If so, you could order a BFR and save for it during the wait - much better than paying off an aquisition IMHO (and I have the debt to prove it ;) ).

Cheers

Pug - we've talked about your AL in PM's and you like it don't ya ?

Just save a bit - I put a little away everyday from my loose change and boy does it mount up!! Ya don't have to rush into it - let EB get it right first, then buy one lol!! ;)

Keep yer AL I'd say.

I had the same idea. I was debating getting rid of my Silo Special in order to get a Blue Dawn LE. I decided to keep my Silo. I like the guitar too much. it fits my hand perfect. it has a great weight for playing live with some buddies. And the sounds those single coils can produce oh my. Also I really like the color. (Same color as my truck.;) )

But as for you. The question comes down to. Do you like your current AL. Does the playability. looks, and tone work for you. If not let her go.

Damn EBMM for creating these delicious new models.

I love my AL and felt guilty about this thread after I started it. So, I grabbed my lovely Rolls Burgundy friend and sat outside in on the porch and played for a long time. This guitar feels perfect, sounds too sweet and is dripping with tone, I will have to figure out another scenario to get a BFR. Hell, I live in Vegas maybe I can get a job as an escort;) ;) (although the wife would be a tad upset)

How much business do you think you can really drum up at
"The Puggy Ranch":p

If you love the tone, feel, and look of your current AL I wouldn't let it go for something that's outside your budget, particularly if it hasn't actually been officially introduced yet. The actual final offering may be a bit different from the protos and may not jump out at you the same way.

I'm with the others that if you budget now, by the time it is available, put in production and could be delivered, you've probably given yourself a minimum of 9 months to reassess your situation. Buy it outright. Use proceeds from your existing AL to defray about 1/2 the cost, or say hey, no matter what it looks like it can't play better than mine and I'll use what I've saved for ______.

Or, you're in Vegas, there is one other solution

Craps ;)

I almost didn't get the Dargie when EBMM first posted this AL!!!!
The good news is the BFR ALs probably won't be announced until Summer Namm, then there will be a waiting period after that. I'm thinking I may be able to put that sweet little AL right next to my Dargie!? There's time to save a whole lotta dough! :)
