Ah, well trust me on this one then, learn to do it yourself...nobody knows or cares for your instrument like you do. When I purchased my Pet it was set up with atleast 1/4" action, totally unplayble...I argued with the tech (who had 30years experience) and I told him the specs on this baby were 1/16", and he scoffed. Now I've got it between 1/32" and 1/16". My SUB 1's are all smokers at 1/16". It's very easy and fun, very satisfying once you get it right...just drop it in stages, adjusting the truss rod as you go if required, I know for me 1/16" makes a huge difference in my playing...it may seem funny but that's how I feel.
You can always ask here for support, and you really only need the simplest of tools and a good ruler with the zero at the very edge of the ruler...

thing is, I've tried it myself..there's only so much you can do with it being that the bridge can only be raised..so it's just a truss rod thing...I have it as low as it'll go without it buzzing on the lower frets on the upper strings...a buddy of mine shimmed it when he put in the new pups (raised those for me as well..they were just toooo darned low) and it helped a little, but not enough for my liking....

i put a .010 shim in the neck pocket on my axis and it did make a big improvement on the action on the upper frets it is just about perfect for me but if you want really low action then you probably should get the jp with the flatter neck and the individual saddle height adjustment you can get the action lower than the axis.

Well here's the deal with the Floyd...you have a fretboard with a radius and a trem plate that is flat, so there has to be some loss somewhere, either higher action on the lowest and highest strings or some buzzing on the middle stings. However there is a remedy, to create a radius on your trem plate you can shim the individual saddles, namely the A, D (maybe the G). Therefore you can get your action low and evenly accross all the strings. This is one reason why the JP trem is the best, because it has that vintage trem individual saddle adjustment and the full floting capabilities of modern trems.
Now I've just read that some Floyds have saddles that match the different height's required for the radius, although when I llok at my Floyd equipped guitars, I see them as being level, or straight.

yeah, i think the smaller radius is what the problem is..kinda like a fender neck in that regard..but I always had the vintage trems so like you said, could just adjust the saddles...

i don't have my axe on me, but I think you're right about the saddles just bein' flat...

oh well..maybe someone's up for a trade for the jp model =D

After I bought my JP7, I liked it so much better than my Axis that I went ahead and sold it. I haven't missed it yet. I think the JP's are so much better. The tremolo is the best. I don't want to think about using clamps and fine tuners anymore.

think I could break even if I sold mine and bought a used JP? or maybe an even swap?

even if you shimmed the saddles to follow the radius of the neck and then shimmed the neck more to compensate for the raised saddle height, because of the smaller neck radius on the axis the strings will fret out on the bends if you try to get micro action. thats why the jp has that flat neck so you can have that super low action and not fret out on the bends. but i would get your axis set up and have them add a shim in the pocket before you sell it because my axis action is pretty low and plays really easy so you might not have it set as low as it can be. unless you just want a change and i can relate to that. i have considered selling mine to get a jp also just for a change.
