I know this player. Don't get me wrong, he has tons of technique. More than I'll ever have but I'm so bored by guys like this after 30 seconds. In my opinion, it has zero musicality.

I know a lot of people are put off by these types of players, I for one listen to everyone from, Michael Hedges and Stanley Jordan to guys like Francesco and Joe Stump...I feel there is a time and place for everything, sometimes the blues, sometimes fusion..whatever, but I still feel there is music to all of their individual styles! I try and encompass all of their styles when I play...I know I will never be able to play that fast, but if I can squeeze in a riff, scale or arrpeggio that I picked up, then that's way cool!

my 2 cents

The guy certainly works on his chops. I think his tone is awful, though.. I hear more finger noise than notes. And none of the playing in those video clips sounds very musical.. you'd be hard pressed to come up with a musical context to fit those chops into...

I'd be more impressed to hear some evidence of soul... this guy reminds me of Michael Angelo Batio.. all technique. I ought to know, I'm one of the 4 people on earth who actually bought Nitro's "O.F.R." album, and I bought it because it was so bad I had to prove to other people that I wasn't making it up! I mean, come on! The so-called guitar solo on "Freight Train" sounds more like someone doing arpeggio warm-ups. It's all flash and no substance.

Now, I don't have chops anywhere *near* these guys, but I wouldn't trade my phrasing for theirs.

Well these are excerpts from lessons that the guy is offering, now I wouldn't judge his phrasing or 'soul' based on lessons. However, I've seen Nitro live and at that time I couldn't make heads or tails of his riffs...

Jim Gillette is/was the worst vocalist ever!

OC,

Hahahah! Yeah, I would have to agree about Gillette. He's the main reason I bought the CD. I saw that old video for "Freight Train" on MTV back in the days when they played videos, and I laughed so hard I almost split my sides.

But he ended up marrying Lita Ford, so who's laughing now, right? ;) Hehehe.

Raz,

You're right, it's unfair of me to judge his phrasing from lesson material. But even the shredders who I know personally tend to bend a note here and there, even when they're flying through linear patterns. ;) If the guy is as musical as he is technical then look out!

Haha.. late breaking edit. I went to this guy's homepage, and one of the people quoted (plugging this guys' CD) is none other than Michael Angelo! Hahaha! :)

Plus, the dude plays SIT strings.. so how good could he be? ;)

I hear ya bro, we all have our likes and dislikes...I personally think that whatever people do on their axe is what they feel is right for them, I respect everyone, heck even Kurt Cobain...j/k.

He can play......so can 100's of other dudes that I know.....same stuff......everyone shredding but no one is saying anything.......

To quote my man Ozzy...."A guitar hero makes people want to go out and play guitar." Well, if that is a lesson, a beginner would be discouraged rather quickly by all of that flash. I find teachers to be alot of "see what I can do" and not "let me show you how to do the basics and expand on them.." My instructor started me with warm up exercises and basic chords and scales. Then showed me how to expand on them. I am not a great player like this guy, but my basic stuff is more soulful and alive than a 200 mph arpeggio....my 2 pennies.

BTW, lucky him to have Lita.....

Im sorry that isn't even music and I dont find it impressive atall. Yes I can see the numerous techniques he's using for these lessons but he still sounds crap, sounds like a computer game!

Theres a reason why shredders like Yngwie and Becker will be the gods and thats because they can write songs
