I haven't been around for a while but it's time for me to get some opinions. I play a String Ray 4 HH through a GK 800 RB and although I'm not unhappy with my sound, I'm thinking I'd like to try something new and different. GK always sounds good with Musicman basses so I'm not sure the GK 1001 would be much different from my 800 RB. Everyone seems to rave about the Little Mark II and the Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 is the new kid on the block. I know some of you guys have these amps or at least have tried and compared them with your Sting Ray HH. Which one do you think matches up best?

I was playing a SR4HS and SR5HH through an 800rb for the last year. Felt the same way about it you did... it was fine. I just bought a Shuttle 6.0 mostly for the form factor and input/headphone features and I'm extremely pleased. Warmed/softened up the upper mids considerably and has much more true low end than an 800RB. Guess it's slightly less punchy, but not enough for me to miss. Personally, i found the 1001 to be far too complicated with all the knobs and buttons. I think you'll be very happy like I am with a Shuttle.

If you want different... go MarkBass F1 - nice power... itty-bitty package. I actually like my GK stuff over the rest but that is just an opinion. Ask yourself what exactly you are looking for and go find it.

It all depends on the type of music and what speaker cab configuration. I play in a classic rock cover band in small to medium sized rooms. I use Epifani UL112 cabs either together for larger rooms, or one for small or rehearsal with 2 guitars and a LOUD drummer. The sound in GREAT and it holds down the bottom quite well. I tell my bandmates after every gig, "I LOVE THIS AMP!" :D

If an itty bitty amp is what you're after, the Acoustic Image Focus is another option. 800 watts, 7 lbs. Very transparent, so goes really nicely with active basses.

+1 on that... very nice head and Mark is right about it being transparent (I tried one with an Avatar cab and it thumped)
