But, alas, I know it isn't to be.

Ya see, my fretless 5 string Bongo was slated to show up on July 9th. But, I understand the good folk at Ernie Ball are a little busier than was guesstimated back in March. Adam at GC said that it'd probably only be an extra week, but I think that might be a bit too optimistic. It's nice to know, at least, that the GC is on my way home from work, so I'll be able to have it within hours of getting "the call."

I'd rather they were busy building Bongos than looking for stuff to do around the shop, so I'll just comfort myself in the fact that I was able to wait close to 18 months for this to be built:

So, waiting for another couple of weeks won't kill me.

I just know the Bongo fretless 5 is going to end mucho GAS for me, and I'm dying to hear the SC neck pickup with a good set of TIs!

Sigh--It's always the last couple of weeks that are the hardest.....

This Bongo is anxiously awaiting a new playmate...

Nice 8-string Bassmonkee. I can't even imagine having the talent to play that. In fact I'm even thinking about taking 2 strings OFF my 4 string!

Heh--if it makes you feel better, it took about a year before I had a clue what to do with it, myself... :D

Pictures a plenty, I assure you, will appear once the fretless Bongo does.

Oh, and I really don't like when it's referred to as a Bonger, too.

Yeah, July was really front loaded with gigs for me, and it looks like this fretless will arrive when I've got a couple of free weeks. I've got a 4 hour gig tomorrow night, and I'd LOVE to have used the fretless Bongo for that.

Oh, well--I'll have to content myself with the fretted Bongo and the VBass. :D

The VBass is great! I've got a second GK-2B pickup ready and waiting for the fretless Bongo, too.

My favorite sounds are a modeled hollowbody with Big Muff distortion blended with the natural sound of the Bongo. That tone will chew up and spit out any contenders. Heck, my tone could knock out Glenn Danzig with one punch. ;)

Granted, the Bongo is extremely versatile, by itself--especially with the piezos. But, when you want your Bongo to sound like a Hammond Organ, you have to take slightly more extreme measures....

I like to get a nice neutral sound out of my amp, and then I can model different amps/basses depending on the song. Most gigs I won't take the VBass simply because it has a good sized footprint, but it's a blast when I am recording, or using loops.

I feel your pain, I'm just finishing up a week of gigs away from home and then am going to be out of town for the rest of the month and no sign of my fretless either  ....... definitely worth the wait but I don't even have a fretted Bongo to be content with yet!?!?!
The tort does look great on the Bongo BTW.

I was wondering if there was an update on your fretless.

I like the tort on the sapphire black, too. But, I'm sure I'll pick up a tort guard for the new white fretless, and then swap out the tort for moonstone on the black bass.

Is it possible to have pickguard GAS? I actually almost got a black pearl pickguard from Bryan Boots on eBay for the white fretless, and I don't even have it yet! I'm sure the abalone will look stunning, though...

Good luck on getting your new bass, PP. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it, too.

Bassmonkeee... you can never have too many pgs. I've got 2 extras for the green Bongo with a BlackIce one on order... heaven help me when my 5 shows up.

Any word on yours yet Bassmonkeee???

As a side note, Boots makes awesome pgs. The 2 he made for me were top-notch. If he has the material you are looking for I recommend going to him first (and he is cheaper than most of the other places too).

LOL--No, no new word since FRIDAY. :D I'm not going to sweat it. Waiting for a new bass is very much a zen thing. You just have to accept that it will arrive when it arrives.

I'm sure I'll contact Bryan about Bongo pickguards soon enough. I just sent him out the original for this--

I'm getting a mirror pickguard and truss rod cover for it. At some point, I'll probably drop some Kent Armstrong lipstick tube pickups in it, too.

My Us 5 string Curbow body was just sent off to Michael Dolan in CA for a refinish, too.

Hopefully, these projects will keep me occupied while I wait for the Bongo.
