I'm looking at these two guitars and I can't decide which one to go for. They both have HSH pickup configs, they both sound good. However I noticed with the Silo that the humbucker have kind of a honky sound to them. Is this because they use a 250k pot. I like the feel of both. The Godin is the Freeway SA model with the synth access. If any of you guys can give me advice I sure would appreciate it. Thanks

welcome to the forum!!

They are both great guitars, but there really is not comparison!!!!

I have a Silhouette, and before getting it I was heavily considering a Freeway.
The Freeway is great bang for the buck, especially considering it's 1/3 to 1/4 the price of a Silhouette.
The more you play each, the more you'll understand why.
As an entry level guitar the Freeway is the way to go. But if you have any experience playing, you must go Music Man.
I read a lot about both guitars, and asked a lot of questions about both on various guitar forums.
If memory serves me properly, a lot of people eventually changed out the pups on their Freeways. They'd change the tuners, the frets would either have the odd sharp edge, or mushroom, or even the odd dead spot.
I'm not sure what you mean by the humbucker having a honky sound. I do know that it has a nice quack! You can get varying tones from strat to tele.

Trust me! Get the Silo.
I spent over 2 years deciding what to buy, and have never for a second regretted it.

I would guess the "honk" you here is the midrange in the pickup; pickups are one of the easiest things to change in a guitar if that is the only thing holding you back. I personally like the feel and sound of EBMM guitars, so that's where I would probably end up.

I like the Godin Freeway too. Nice guitar, no question. I like the Silo a lot better though.....I think the pickups sound better and I really dig the Silo's neck profile.....to me it's pretty much the best neck out there.

I have one Godin (an exit 22) and also helped a friend pick out his first guitar (saved him from one of those packages that they sell billions and billions of......got him a Godin Detour). I guess my first observation is that the guitar is essentially a Godin Detour but with a nicer top (instead of painted) and HSH configuration instead of the HH of the Detour. I know from playing a lot of Godins that the necks can vary a ton from one model to another. But I'm guessing that it's very close to the Exit 22 and detour neck. So you're getting one more pickup, a nicer top and the synth. If you MUST have the synth, then it's a good entry way to go. If not, I'll tell you that we got my friend's son the Detour for $250 brand new. I'd compare the Detour to a Sub 1 (closest comparison). Check it carefully as I have noticed inconsistancies in quality when I've found a dealer with 10 or more to check out. I feel my Exit 22 (mohagony body, maple neck) will do anything a Les Paul will at 1/8 the price. I'll also say that my Axis or ASS will absolutely run rings around it. I can't comment on the sub vs the Godin until I've put it back together. Maybe once it's done, I'll run down to my friend's house and do a back to back comparison. I'd compare the neck to in between a silo and a JP.

Besides the synth, I'd go Silho, for sure. If you're doing synth.....well, Godin is the way to go.

Jack summed it up pretty well. Go silo if MIDI out not required.

I think that considering the fact this question is being asked on this forum, whether or not you realize it, you want the silo. Asking here is simply just confirmation... Make sure to show us pics of the new silo.

I've played a lot of guitars before I found something I really liked. I'm very picky and want everything on a guitar to be perfect (neck, frets, ergonomics, sound). This is the first guitar that gave me that "perfect" feel:
