I have a sil sp HSS,maple board.I am ready for new singles.I like the bridge humbucker,so it*s a keeper.I*ve researched via U-Tube,and sort of narrowed it down to dimarzio area 58,and dimarzio cruiser neck pickups.Any of you forumites out there done the change, keeping the bridge humbucker?Any advice is appreciated..looking for a more defined bigger sound, country blues is my genre.Tx.

Ages ago I had a Silhouette Special with the stock 'bucker and Bill Lawrence L200s (noiseless) in the neck and middle, worked very well, since the bridge doesn't have a particularly high output. I prefer the L200s to the Areas, myself, but they are similar. I currently have a set in my pinkburst AL.

Everyone's different, but I preferred more of a traditional single coil sound from the Sil Spec rather than something higher output.

My Silhouette Special has a Tyler Secret in the bridge and 2 x Suhr V60LP singles.
I have a push/push tone pot to split the bridge.
I honestly can think of no reason I'd ever change this set up.

I have a 2000 silhouette, 24 fret, hardtail (will post one of these days). It came stock with an HSH Dimarzio/EB setup. I switched to an HSS using BG Pups pickups: BG Bucker (bridge) and two of his strat V60 singles. The stock setup wasn't bad but I wanted a more stratocaster sound, and I had a couple of Bryan's unbeatable humbuckers in other guitars. He now offers these pickups as a set for around $160 - pretty cheap for what you get. The guitar sounds just great, those V60's just sing. BG Pups is not that well known, but his pickups are as good as Fralin's Lollar's or any of the other top boutique winders out there for a lot less cash. Check around you won't find a bad review of his pups anywhere.

wolf - that is a fantastic looking SS you've got there. Love the two color pup look.

I also really like the Suhr pups. I've got a SS loaded guard with an SSH bucker and V60's in it and it's sweet.

But as well, the pups that Brian Gunsher winds are killer and a great value.

I would suggest you check out the Bare Knuckles Irish Tours. They have a classic overwound vintage single coil voicing that sound great.

The Suhr ML Standards are great as well. Not overly hot like Texas Specials, but just right. These pickups should match up well the the Silo Bridge Pup me thinks.
