I've got a silo special equipped with a silent circuit and when i bought it (used) the pickups were swapped out and i swapped out the pickups out to custom wound pickups to have a set that matched...

Here's my question(s)

1) the silent circuit should work with any single coil pickup...
2) how much of the 60 cycle hum should be cut out in positions 1-3-5

i've opened up the pick guard and have adjusted the pot on the silent circuit but i still get a lot of hum and have checked the battery, etc.

What am i missing?

Ha! Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

Peter- it will work for a variety of different pickups, but how effective it is will vary.

So ... is it working at all? If you're sure it's working (pull the battery in/out and it should be obvious ... make sure the battery is working), then fine-tuning the output with the screw is the best way to adjust it. If it's not cancelling enough hum (or you can't find the sweet spot), then it might not be the best fit for those pickups. You can also move it slightly, it works best when it's in close proximity to a pickup (so it's usually better with one pickup than for the others).

If you've done all of that and it's still not that effective, then there's not much else you can do. (There's a way to fine tune it for each pickup, but if it's not cancelling enough hum that won't help.)

Thanks Beej-

I'll go through all the suggestions as mentioned and see if i can't figure it out... IF by chance the silent circuit is not working properly can i send that part back to EBMM and have them send me a new one?

Do talk to customer service. That's what they are there for. I'd be interested to hear what they say.

I have recently rewired my Silo Special and 3 positions use the silent circuit and they are noticeably noisier than the naturally humbucking positions. But the silent circuit is working. I can hear the difference when I remove the battery and when I adjust the circuit. The silent circuit does a great job but it can't always get rid of all the hum around you.
