Hi All, i got my first EBMM today, a Silhouette 20th Anniversary hardtail so i thought i'd say hello :)

It plays great after a quick (and easy) truss rod tweak but to be honest I'm not blown away by the pickups...

They immediately struck me as very mid focused, which is ok and EQ-able, but the thing frustrating me at the moment is that they do not clean up well at all. The neck pickup goes from full to mud with a very slight turn of the knob (10 to 9 on a Strat).

From what i've read other 20ths clean up nicely so is their anything you would suggest to remedy this ?

I had a look in the control cavity and everything looks neat and where it should be

Thanks

Hello Rik, and welcome to the forum. I can't comment on the pickups since I've never had a Silo. Good luck!

fair point :D

i did rehearse with it tonight and it was very nice to play, and it stayed in tune unbelievably.

Just need a bit more versatility with the volume knob, but that should be an easy fix

I don't know, kind of sounds like a personal preference to me. I really love the bridge pickup a lot, I get some great rock sounds with a high gain amplifier. Sounds killer for stuff like Zeppelin or Deep Purple.

The neck pickup, yeah I get your point. A little muddier than I would personally like. I guess that would be the one thing about the 20th...but again I think it is more a personal choice. I really like having a single coil in the neck for clean tones.

But all that being said the 20th Silhouette is hands down the best guitar I have ever owned. I even prefer it over most guitars I have ever played including really high priced boutique models. I really love the neck and body of the guitar, the sound (especially the bridge) and the simplicity of the design. Such a great guitar.

Enjoy yours. :)

Check your pots and wiring to see if they're standard. I just got a 20th a couple months ago and somebody swapped out the pots on it with 250ks, and botched the wiring. I sounded lifeless and hollow. I set it back to spec and the guitar REALLY opened up.

Yeah, do check the wiring. You could also install a treble bleed mod to the volume pot, which will prevent the mud when you turn down and alter the taper of the volume, making it a bit less dramatic in the 10-7 portion of the knob's turn.

And welcome to the forum. Beautiful guitar!
