Nah, seriously, IMHO, I think it's good to know the history of your instrument, everything from when it was built to the way that it was handled by a previous owner (if bought used).
Whenever you sell a guitar buyers always want to know the year of manufacture. I don't know why. Not being the original owner I didn't know. I called Ernie Ball and they were very helpful.
In the case of most guitars, year of manufacture can tell you a number of things about the hardware and design of the model you're buying... Older Silhouette Specials, for example, might have a Wilkinson trem instead of a MM Vintage, or Schaller pickups instead of Dimarzios. Some of the Axis from the late '90s may still have the counter-sunk neck plate, while the newer ones do not. And the earlier Lukes have Floyds where the new ones use the Vintage trem... Knowing when a guitar was made can tell you a lot before you even see a pic...
...that being said, I personally just like to know. It makes no difference in the end, but I'm curious
