I've got a Silhouette Special HSS that to me is the best playing guitar I've ever played but the way it sounds makes me wish I would have bought a SSS model. I wanted output on the bridge pup for od, I got that but it sounds dreadful (like mud) when playing clean and the middle and neck pups don't sound much better. My question is if theres any high output bridge pup that would have a little more high end sparkle that would fit into the double space. Thanks.

Ed- you mean you don't like the single coils on it either?

I replace the HB in my old Silo Spec with a (yes you guessed it since I go on about this a lot) Bill Lawrence 450. Output is decent, but the inductance is low and it passes a lot of highs and is more sparkly than the original HB. It's really a HB that's voiced as a single coil.

But if you don't like the singles, then there's something off with your rig or you might just want to swap everything out at once. Or did I just read that wrong?

I think you need a new amp. What bridge pickup do you have? I think my silhouette special sounds fantastic and I even like the humbucker but I have been debating replacing it with a FRED.

Beej might have a point because even the single coils don't sound right. I'll have to have somebody check the wiring. As far as the amp, I have a Allen Brown Sugar which is a Fender brown era clone that other guitars sound great through.

Yeah, the stock Sil Spec has a gorgeous vintage stratty sound, and it certainly sounds like your amp should be able to make it sing.

Good idea about the wiring- also might want to try a low-capacitance cable to make sure it's not sucking out the highs.

Let us know how it goes!
