Hi Guys,

I've got my eye on a new addition to the (small but growing) family of Balls.

It's this one .

Gorgeous color!, but anyway. I was wondering if this is the original configuration, as it has a Wilkinson trem and Schaller tuners. I was under the impression that the older Silo's had Grover tuners. Any ideas?

(also, the tuner seem to have "slits" on top, which I don't think the Schaller M6IND have, but I am by no means a Schaller connaisseur)

(even if they have been installed by a previous owner, Schallers have my preference, I'm just wondering)

I can't see exactly from those photos, but it looks normal to me. I had a Silhouette Special of the same vintage years ago- the old trem and tuners. Played like butter.

Thank you both for your replies. The seller confirmed the Silo was original. Perhaps he was just mistaken in the tuner brand.

I'm a bit concerned about the Grovers though, they seem to have 'mixed reactions' on the forum.

On the other hand, I can not imagine EB using anything other than top quality.

Thanks again for the help.

I never had any issues with them, they lock nicely and stay in tune. Not as nice as the new Schallers, but imo no reason to upgrade them.

I have two of those actually - one in the exact same Pearl Green, and another in Pearl Purple, but both have maple boards (not rosewood). I haven't had any problems at all with the tuners, or with the Wilkinson trem bridges either!

I have 1995 silo special (even though it only says Silhouette). I wouldn't change the tuners or bridge, they are great

Thank you all for your replies.

Nice silo you have there INMT, very nice. Thanks for the close-up of the tuners, haven't seen them this up-close before.

I tried to snipe the auction, but failed miserably (or rather, the sniping program did), and it went for € 836, which really is a steal if you ask me (hard to find anything decent below € 1.000,00 here 'on the other side of the pond'

But there are more (expensive) fish in the sea, like this silo which is listed as "like new", and this Axis which looks really nice too, but is a bit overpriced since it's got some pretty bad chips and dings...
BTW, I think the neck pickup in the last one has been taken out and put back "upside down"...

I've got the highest bid on the silo for the moment, but I expect that will change...

Bah, once I get 'the GAS', I really obsess about getting a new Ball....but I can only imagine that sounds familiar to you guys, right ? ;)

Wow, that is a good price! I do agree that closer to €1000 or even €1100 would have been expected, maybe even more to the right buyer. AND YOU MISSED IT! HOE HEB JE DAT GEFLIKT?!

Time to dump the sniping program, Mark. You need to win that True Gold SS!! :D
