Silly L III Question.....

Hi All
I tuned out for a while, but am back in the game. I can't get used to this valentine, so am selling up but back in Ball GAS mode, and been watching the LIII Vids...

So... is the neck profile on the later Lukes the same as earlier? - i.e. a soft V ?

I don't want a soft V or any kinda V but I saw a vault piece that was a different profile - so hoping there was a change, and I just missed it?

Any help welcome and I'd love to have a Luke back in the stable (as long as the neck is C, D or U ! )

My 2019 Luke is a soft V from frets ~1-6, then it gradually turns into a full C shape. Maybe some of the BFR or Vault runs are different, but the soft V->C is the standard issue shape AFAIK.

I bought one of the LIII's shortly after they came out. Gorgeous instrument in all respects. But within a year I managed to trade it for another Albert
Lee with a fellow knucklehead here on the forum.
I just couldn't get along with the V carve no matter how hard I tried... but that's just me....

No, with the exception of a very small number of Vault guitars, all Lukes are a V profile, which has not changed since they the started making them 30 years ago.

I think I will disagree on that. I have LII and LIII here. The profiles are different. If you go from one to another it is very obvious. My LIII is less V for sure. Also, when I was talking to CS before buying LIII they told me that the neck profile is gonna be a bit different compare to older LII. LIII neck feels a bit bigger on the back. Don't get me wrong they are still quite similar, not the same. As a side note: I always played the thickest vintage U D fender necks before and LII neck is what sold me on the guitar first second I took it -- so comfortable to play.

They tell me it has never changed. It's always a little different form instrument to instrument but...

...I don't know!

Haha, that's why we should be more scientific about it: only facts and data. I wish I had a template or gauge so I can report the data...
I can try to capture it with a photo maybe... But if the OP is so strongly against the V, it is still a big risk.

Yes. No matter what unless you find a very rare one off the Luke is not a neck for people who don't like Vs.

I've got a LII, a LIII, and a LIII BFR. They all feel the same to me.
I need to find my old contour gauge and actually get some measurements to verify how similar they are.
