Anybody with experience in moving to 500k Pots on their Silos? The Dimarzio cruiser I want to put in the neck is often paired with 500k vol pots, but I worry the current bridge PAF PRO and middle single will be ice pick shrill. YOW! Either that or have a dark sounding Dimarzio Cruiser.

This makes me wonder how people resolve these situations where you have some pickups more suited for 250k and some more suited for 500k, while only use ONE master tone control.

Thoughts?

By the way, love my 24 fret w/floyd silo! Thanks to you guys, Music Man Customer Support was able to get me setup with a SSH pickguard, which is uncommon for 24 frets.

Another option is to wire a 500k resistor in parallel on the pickup selector, so some pickups see 250k and some see 500k.

I have an Area 58 & 61 in my Strat w/ 500k volume pot. I had a 250 in there and it sounded too warm for my tastes....not muddy, but I couldn't get a bright funk sound out of it. The 500k pot was the difference I was looking for.

I have 58 neck / 61 mid / AirZone bridge - fyi.

I'd say try it. It's a cheap mod that's easily reversible if you don't like it.

Does that work? I'm not an electronics guru at all, so If i'm able to keep the 250k Vol pot and wire a ??k ohm resistor in parallel, I think that'd be a great solution. Is it really just a matter of wiring it up in parallel?

Actually, should be a 250k resistor (2x500k pots gives you 250k). But yes, it works. Just wire it in parallel to the pickup (and ground) on the pickup selector.

Two things to note- any combined positions will see the reduced load (usually what you want anyway), and the taper of the volume pot will be slightly affected by it. But easy to wire up and see if you like it.

Thanks guys.

I'll give either the concentric vol pot or the resistor in parallel a try. I'll try it all with 500k first, maybe the PAF PRO bridge and mid pup wont be THAT shrill.
I had a cruiser in the neck of my silo with 500k pots sounded amazing !

My Sil has a Cruiser in the neck and it sounds awesome. I don't remember if I changed the pot though.
