I'm not whining or complaining, I'm curious and I come here in search of answers. The Silhouette doesn't come in Pacific Blue Burst, which is a color that is not discontinued and that I would like to have on that instrument. But the Silo comes in Vintage Sunburst but not Pacific Blue Burst. It would be reasonable to say that if you can do a burst of one kind on a given guitar you can do a different color of burst on the same guitar. Right? You would think so. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking on EB's buisness decisions or what they will and will not do and I understand they have a gagillion options for any given instrument. My question is why? Why doesn't EB offer PBB on the Silo? If I was a betting man I would say becuase there isn't enough demand for it on that guitar, but hopefully someone up higher on the ladder will let me know for sure. Thanks.

Travis,

I had always thought that trans colors like Pacific Blueburst were restricted to guitars that had figured tops.. quilts or flames.. because those finishes really work well on that kind of wood. I'm not sure that a blue burst would show up as well on a plain ol' piece of basswood, ash, or alder.

A good old fashioned sunburst (or tobacco) has been done on 'plain' wood for a long time by a lot of companies.. we're sort of 'used to' seeing it that way. It's more opaque than transparent. Same with the Pearl Redburst on the Petrucci guitar.. it's not see-thru at all, yet it is a 'burst'.

Anyway, that's what I always "figgered"... what does anyone else think?

That would be a good theory, but look at the Stingray's and Sterling's. None of those are figured and yet the PBB option is available on them.

Pacific Blue is not offered on Silhouette's because the Silhouettes and Specials are made out of alder. A very plain looking grain, especially naked. Vintage sunburst is a 3 tone burst and the black portion covers up the edges while the yellow translucent part is mostly covered up by the pickguard. It is a traditional look that works well with a pickguard. Even though it is a trans-finish it could almost be considered a solid finish. It does not let much of the grain show though especially if using a pickguard.

The SR, Sterling, and SR5 come in Pacific Blue because we use ash 100% of the time.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Wasn't it offered on the Silos at one time though?

I believe this is Trans Blue.
It's not very attractive if you ask me.

Ash was the staple on Silhouettes in trans colors till we discontinued the Floyd version somewhere around 1998. Alder was then chosen as the body wood alongside its brother the Silhouette Special. The MM trem was implemented on the Luke and we decided to offer it on the other models as well. This particular example is trans teal which looks very much like blue. Trans blue is offered on the basses along with trans teal.

That just gave me a major case of GAS-I already bought my new guitar, though! :)

(Unfortunately, it's not an EBMM-funds just didn't allow it!)
