hello all, I searched a lot about replacing pickups in a Silo HSH, and found a lot concerning Special HSS, but not a lot on standard Silo...anyhow, I purchased a Dargie II Silo off of another member and although the guitar is near flawless in craftsmanship and playability I couldn't help but be disappointed in the sound coming from it. first I'll say that I've owned dozens of guitars over the past couple of years and have a few keepers and 'ol faithfulls on standby. My main guitar for years and years is an '89 Ibanez 550, in **** blue (Marine Blue so I've been told), yeah it's not much to look at but in many years of swapping pickups and playing it has become an old soul and sounds incredible (Humbucker from Hell, Area 58 and Tone Zone). My band covers the gamut so I need something that would cover everything from the Beatles, Tom Petty to Weezer and Metallica. In looking for an alternate (not replacement) guitar for my trusty 550, I stumbled upon the Silo. having previously owned a JP6 I knew the HSH and 5 way was more of what I was looking for...although I love the JP6 neck more than my wife. A day after owning the Dargie II, I found it a lot brighter sounding and not as hot as I would have liked. I ordered a set of Dimarzios, HFH, 58, and AT-1, but when they arrived I decided to stick an Air Norton in the neck pickup instead....ahhh the warmth I was looking for..sounds very similar to the setup I'm used to, but warmer and thicker..think I've found a keeper..
god bless Ernie Ball and Music Man guitars.
BTW my setup consists of an Orange Rockerverb 50 (older 6L6 version) 2-12 cab, EB Vol, EB Wah, TC polytune, Keeley modded TS-9 (older maxon OD808 which doesn;t see much use anymore) Keeley compressor, HB Detox EQ, ISP Decimator, Bullet Coily, George L's pedalboard cables, and TC Nova Delay in the loop.
