My '93 Silo originally had the HSH setup, it was alright but I wanted something a little different. I saw the videos of Johnny Hiland and his new signature pickups from David Allen and decided after watching a few that they might be just what I was looking for.

I ordered the set of Johnny Blades and installed them in the new pickguard with a new switch and knobs. I'll get some pics up eventually if I can put the guitar down.

These pickups smoke anything I have ever tried. I'm not sure how David did it, but they sound great clean, gritty and with high gain. They stay clean and articulate from top to bottom in all switch positions. I took a guess at the pickup heights but doubt that I will change them much. I've never had a neck pickup that sounded so clean and "unmuddy" anywhere on the neck, single notes or chords.

With my HD500 I had a couple of presets that ran the gamut of tones, I had a Bassman Clean, Plexi for the grittier tones and a modded JCM800 for the high gain. I was blown away by all three.

I couldn't believe that I could get a Tele twang, rip your head off overdrive or a beautiful shimmery clean from the same set of pickups.

I'm so happy with the way this guitar plays that I sold my MM90 Sport this morning, the Silo covers it like a blanket and as far as I'm concerned easier and more comfortable to play.

I was in the process of modding my HH AL with a set of 36th Anniversary PAF's but they're going back, I'm ordering a set of DAllen Johnny Buckers for it...

Johnny and David, you guys hit it out of the park...

Hey- nice Fred! You should do a demo!

I've been wondering how those would sound. I have a few sets of the Bill Lawrence blades and wondered how they compare.

Nice overview! I would definitely check these out when I get me a Silo Special once again in the future. It's always fun trying out new things, and then when you stumble onto something that you like it's always so much more fun to stop thinking about mods and just play! That's how I feel about the Suhr pickups I put into my Y2D...whenever I play this guitar I cant stop smiling.

By the way, the POD HD is pretty awesome! I'm having a lot of fun with my Pro version. Takes some time to dial in a good tone, but they are definitely there. I'm sure it's even better hooked up to the DT25!
