While I love the combinations I can make with my Silo, I would also love to have a "true neck single coil" sound on it. It got me wondering, is there some sort of "wire hack" so I can activate the most outer coil on the humbucker?

For instance like on this pic. The coil that is the most far to the neck only, or the coil that is the most far to the bridge? :) I know that on selection of the pickups, I get the coil I want, but also the middle one. Somehow it just doesnt sound as round/bold as on a Strat. :(

You can add a "coil split" to the humbuckers to do that. Fairly straight-forward. You'd need to decide where to put the switch- wire it to the lever switch (you'd have to give up one of the other combinations), put in a push/pull pot, wire up another little toggle switch, etc.

It'll never sound like a Strat, though. Split humbuckers can sound ok, but rarely do they sound as good as a best-of-breed single coil. (Also they'll hum since you'll lose the humbucking qualities of the pickups when you split them.) Lastly, the Silhouette is 24 frets- so the neck single is in a different place that it would be on a Strat.

Another option ... get a second pickguard and wire it up S/S/S. Totally different sounds with the swap of a pickguard.

Thanks Beej. Yup, this might be the route to go. Is the whole 22 fret vs 24 fret thing such a sound difference?
