I've had my Silo Spec for a little over a month now but I haven't used it a whole lot, my LP is still my preferred weapon of choice. A few weeks ago I had a setup done on the silo, I never really inspected it very closely until last night, anyway here's the deal...

I got it restrung with EB 11-48's in the process the guitar tech decided to skew the saddles slightly because the high E string was on the edge of the fretboard and the low E had heaps of room left. So by skewing them he gave the High and Low E's equal spacing to the edge of the fretboard along the entire neck. Now when I use the trem the strings on the saddles that are set farthest back (low E and G) slip out of their grooves and straighten themselves again putting those strings out of tune. Can I file the grooves in the saddles where the string sits deep enough so that they won't ping out and then adjust the action to compensate?

The other thing is the B string is sticking when I use the trem. It always comes back sharp after some use on the trem bar. How can I cure this?

I would apprecite any help given.

Cheers,

Jon

11-48? AAAARRRRRRGGGGGG! My hand hurts just thinking about it. I am a 9 guy myself and I think that is what they come with from the factory. If you are going that much higher in string guage I think the services of a Great luthier are called for. The nut slots may need to be widened a bit. If you have never done this before then don't do it! If you have done this before then you know why you shouldn't do it. One of my Silos had the high E cut a little to close to the edge by 1/64". Just enough for me to notice. If the guitar is still under warranty contact EB NOW! That is what they are there for.

The smallest amount of graphite and vasoline should help with the string binding in the nut. Widening the slots to accomodate the higher guage strings may be all you need though.

On my silo i changed the strings to 10-46's. As far as the slots go.
I used a nail file and very gently and slowly widened them.
(this is what I did. It worked for me but in dought....)
Anyway, this worked great for me. As far as the saddles go i can't help. I use 11-48 on my drop tuned Strat but on a silo, you may need to change the saddles.
