Guys,

Can the Silo Spec take a HH config? I can't remember what it looks like under the pickguard, but do I need to route for a larger cavity in the neck pup position? Also, would the HH config pickguard for the Silhouette fit the Silo Spec?

I'm seriously wanting a 22 fretter with a HH config.:D

I don't think that the rout in the neck pickup area is big enough for a humbucker. It would have to be enlarged to fit it.

I can't seem to find pics of what the actual pickup rout looks like under the pickguard, but I'm sure someone will come along and post it.

Silo Spec is not routed for HH.

For the pickguard I'm not sure but I would say yes worse case scenario you can get one from pickguard heaven I think

isn't that terrible to love so much a model and doing all kind a butchery ?

I'm now in two minds, should I add a mid pickup to my PBB ASS and have a silo config HSH or should I stick to the original plan to replace HH config with seymour phat cat single cloil

Honestly, I'm very tempted to get one off the bay or here, and cut it up to fit a HH... Of course, I'll get it done properly. Most likely enlarge the entire cavity into a swimming pool rout.

And yes, I still want Alder and 2 horns, otherwise I'll stick to an Axis...:D

Or maybe I should just buy a Y2D?

Y2D neck is very special, with all respect for Mr Morse, I didn't like at it at all.

But at least the risk of getting one second hand and try it is not that big :p

Lionel,

The current Morse models and the y2d have the same profile neck. When the y2d was being prototyped, Steve picked one up and said that the neck felt different compared to his #1. He had worn his #1 neck enough to slightly yet noticeably change the profile. At that point his neck was digitized by EB and the new profile was put on all Morse models.

Both the standard and the y2d models are great for 22 frets with humbuckers. The extra pickups and switching options on the original model give you 11 possibilities - or you could get a new pickguard and wire it up as HH only

Hey Lionel,

nope, the Silo SPecials are all routed for HSS.
Nevertheless, there was a forumite whose name I currently don't recall who had his Silo Special body rerouted for HSH config, then ordered a 3rd party Silo Special HH pickguard (I think it was from pickguardheaven.com) and retrofitted it to his axe. That one was a pretty awesome guitar - I guess it was pearl blue - a stunning combination...

Go for it - I am curious to see what you do !!! (might modify one of mine, too...)

Cheers

Axel

If you dont mind, you could always throw in a stacked single coil sized HB into the neck pup route of the silo spec. ;)

I wouldn't do a swimming pool rout. Unless you want to run 3 humbuckers. NO need to open it up that much. Have you thought about a sub 1? Already routed for two hummers.

Does anyone have pic of the Silo Spec body with pickguard removed?

I WOULD do a swimming pool route. I remember trying the acoustic resonances of 2 different types of strats previously, one routed for SSS and one was a swimming pool route. I remember prefering the way the swimming pool one sounded... Heh.:p

I need to repeat: I do not want a Sub1!!! I tried some in Bangkok and Japan, and remembered that next to a Silhouette or Silo Spec, the Sub1 felt wrong to me. I don't know what it was, but it felt empty...
