I'm thinking about changing my HSS to SSS...

if I put in a single at the bridge position, will there be complications with the silent circuit wiring/configuration?

Well if you want strat-type SSS wiring I think you'll need to rewire the selector switch as positions 2&3 are different.
Been thinking about doing the same myself with one of mine....but I am so useless at soldering I'd probably have to pay someone to fix it afterwards

Even with those soft, delicate hands?

Curious why you guys think a bridge single would serve you better.

Humbuckers are just too harsh for me....I never use it (hush hush I actually prefer all the sounds of my Strat Deluxe when I A/B them). When I used to use the SS live I stuck to the other 4 positions. main reasons for buying it were the colour (pearl purple) the light weight & small size. Ideal guitar for us smaller 4 hour a night men.

Very much doubt that I'll ever change it though....thought of trying to buy a SSS SS but it's a 6 month wait & UK prices are ridiculous. Plus it'd mean buying blind and I think perhaps the DiMarzio P/Us are a little too harsh overall for my tastes Maybe someday I'll be able to find one on the bay

Gotcha, thanks.

I almost never use my buckers clean, but when switching to distortion, I find the SS bridge buckers a really sweet sounding change. Different strokes. :)

i'm certainly not going to change my SSS silo too HSS, just amazing single coil tones on offer, what an axe. Im really loving it i tell you!

Rob, glad to hear you are liking the Silo. I love mine, too. I find the AL and Silo Special to be very similar beasts.

Yep i would agree 100% Glenn, they are both fabulous. I'm so happy i ordered it, all those months ago, i was worried it would come a clear 2nd to my AL's and be redundant. Similar tones for sure, but i may just swayed towards the Silo just now. i'd need to sample a rosewood board AL to be sure though.....

Rosewood board sure makes a difference. Easier to keep it looking spankin' new too. Glad yer diggin' it, Rob. What position are you using most on it?

I'm convinced the Silo models (Original & Special) are EBMM's most under-rated guitars...... they are truly great axes, with a combo for any style.

Any neck preference yet Rob ?? (feel/shape-wise)

I love my HSS Silo Spec... but I can understand where you are comin from. Personally, I'd leave the HSS alone.

Another question for you Rob. Since you seem to really love the single coil pickups, what type of music do you typically play?

Same here. But now I'm getting curious about an SSS. Wondering just how different position 2 would sound. 3,4,5 should sound exactly the same on the same guitar. I've never used a single coil pos. 1, well almost never; little funky rhythms notwithstanding. I like the looks of the SSS, but that's not a deal maker.

Hmm, no, 3 would sound different too, on the Special.

Well Bruce, i swear that pos 2 sounds much more strat-like on my SSS than it did on my HSS, i didnt like it all previously, and used my strats to get that tone. Now the SSS is here it does that pos 2 tone SUPERBLY. Much better than i could get out of the HSS. I guess your'e just gonna have to wait and play one some day, and see what you think!

Neck. then middle/bridge. then bridge, for country-ish stuff.

both the AL and Silo are very comfortable, and very similar too in shape, but maybe the AL is slightly ahead! Just that little bit bigger, which is great.

I wish i knew what style i played! Bit of Robben Ford, Albert Lee, Mark Knopfler, Dave Gilmour, Eric Johnson, Steely Dan, Guthrie Govan, Ian Moss ( my hero! ), Tommy Emmanuel, Johnny Hiland, Steve Lukather, SRV, all these guys are my influences, and i try to add the bits i like into my playing. I'm not a shredder anymore, was maybe 8 years ago but grew tired of it, and play mainly cleaner stuff now, hence i play my AL's and SSS Silo Special a lot.

Very interesting, Rob. Wouldn't have thought pos 2 would be so different.
