you would figure a split humbucker would sound different from a split single coil, really.

As I've said before, I've had 3 single silo special p'ups in a strat-ish guitar before, and they sounded very much like my HSS's do, in 2nd position. So, not necessarily.

Back in the earlier days, you could buy Silos with different pickguards loaded with different pickups. They could be changed just by unclipping one connector, restringing, and you've revoiced your guitar. I bought my Silo HSS, then bought a SSS guard for it from EBMM, loaded it with WCR SRs and RS electronics, and use that setup as my "classic Strat". My other HSS pickguard is currently being loaded with Dimarzio Area 61s in the neck/middle, and a Tone Zone in the bridge. It will be my "heavier" Strat. Cool thing about F-style guitars is that they just scream to be hotrodded, so 'rod away!-Eric

Ian Moss is an Aussie who was in one of our greatest bands- Cold Chisel, pretty much a redneck rock kinda band. I dont care much for the songs, but i LOVE Moss' tone and general playing. When he went solo in the late 80's it was better, and he has that great strat tone which i love. Seen him live many times. here's some you tube clips i just found, he's in blues mode here, i'll try and find some more Spud. WARNING- he does not play a ball! But i love him nonetheless.
